Hmmm, I thought blasphemy of the Holy Spirit was the unforgivable sin.

Same thing, though in different contexts, due to the different dispensations. It wasn't as it is now, in the time that this was spoken, in Matt 12:31. At that time, the Spirit did not indwell, therefore it would be possible for someone in the of the Holy Spirit to nonetheless allow his flesh to blaspheme the Spirit and claim His work was "really" the work of Satan. Now, as the Holy Spirit indwells the believer, it is impossible for one so indwelled to blasphemously credit His work to Satan. So if someone were to be guilty of "blasphemy" of the Spirit in this, the church age, he would need to reject His drawing and witness, claiming he is not in need of the Savior to whom the Spirit calls him to surrender.

who can commit this sin?

I would say that only the elect can commit that sin, but the fact that they are elect would seem to indicate that they will not commit that sin...and teachs that ALL sin is forgiven...except rejection of the Holy Spirit when you absolutely know for sure that He is real....

I believe that this warning is specific, around a specific end time event...that of the two candlesticks of Rev11...the witnesses who shall witness in front of Death...

as for where do the children that commit suicide go...

all souls go back to the Father who gave them...probably the same side of the gulf in heaven that the rich man was on...

Your logic has a chink. It is impossible for the "elect" to commit that sin. They never elected themselves.

It depends why you commited suicide. It may have been for selfish reasons or to escape pain.

In either case, or a gray area between the two, only God would know for sure.

Why would the reason make a difference? And if I was in horrific chronic pain continually (which I thank God I do not personally endure), I sure wouldn't consider it "selfish" if I wanted to end my life.

There is no "gray" area in this - those who are UNSAVED will not enter God's kingdom becuz they have rejected the Messiah's payment/sacrifice for there sin.

Those with salvation WILL ENTER God's kingdom becuz they accepted Christ's sacrifice for them & have their ransom paid thru Him.
Scripture is clear that those who are saved will enter heaven, but could 'lose reward' when their works are tried (by fire).
The sins of the believer are already paid & forgiven & removed by Christ - at the cross (no sins escaped His attn. that would happen in the future) -
the sins are paid for the born again Christian, but not for the unsaved.

Jesus said you MUST be born again for eternal life - that is the criteria. We're either saved by faith in Christ or we're not; it's no "gray area" on what the reason was.

Ask yourself two questions:

1. What is the only unforgiven sin?

2. Does suicide fit into that definition?

There's your answer. There is not "gray area" with God.

as I understand it, the warning is given to the elect, for they are the only ones (in that time) that can even (could ever) commit that unpardonable sin..

but the mere fact that they are elect..and as you said did not choose themselves, IMO they shall not commit this sin, no one will in the last 1/2 hour...

I am not sure what you mean by chink because I believe basically what you seemed to correct me on.... I think that you misunderstood my post.

*not completely sure what's meant by "unpardonable sin", but MURDER/suicide is NOT the unpardonable sin the Bible explained.

ALL sins are forgivable if one is born again in Christ. & yes Christians can & do commit suicide -- Satan can definitely cause oppression over a believer - that leads them to committing the act.

What I think is sad is that anyone has suggested a Christian is doomed to hell for an act of sin--- that violates the whole point of Christ's blood which atones for our sins. We willfully accepted Christ's sacrifice to ransom us from this very fate.

I'd venture to say that ALL of us have had pride issues at some point, all of us have told lies and have most likely spread some sort of strife in the body of Christ....

These things are abominations to God too - yet we focus on suicide as being "worse"? If God can forgive us lying, He can forgive murder - OF THOSE WHO ARE HIS.

Salvation is what gets us into eternal life - works don't (good or bad works).

Ahhh, still going nothing outlasts the entirely pointless thread.

How about living for today-for God-rather than debating about things that right or wrong make little difference. Especially as it seems noone here is convincing anyone of anything.

Just a note: on that last one, it comes from the book of First John, not John. Some people see "1 John 3:16" and think it's supposed to be "John 3:16." Just a clarification.

Anyway, God tells us that suicide--for the right reasons--is a noble thing. Jumping in front of a bullet to save your friend is a great thing to do. Going to the cross willingly, without argument, defense, or fight was what Christ did for us, effectively allowing himself to die.

Suicide is defined as "the act or instance of intentionally killing oneself." One can take their own life through action or inaction. If you stand in the path of a gun, knowing full well it will be fired, you are committing suicide by inaction. If your friend then moves in the path to protect you, they are committing suicide, even though they themselves are not pulling the trigger. They still have the full knowledge of self-endangerment.

In the case of your friend, OP, I don't think you made mention that this person took their life to protect someone. Still, the point stands: suicide is not prohibited anywhere in the Bible. Yes, I wish to God that those who feel they cannot go on would reach out and find help. I believe that suicide is never a good way out of your own problems. Still, even if the Pope or Billy Graham jumped out of a 30-story window, I don't see in Scripture where it says they'll go to Hell.

Number two is found all throughout the gospels. Jesus Himself said that those who love me will obey me. There is a difference between sin which we all do and sin that is deliberate, repeated, and calculated.
