  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think you misunderstand my point. The reason the text books say this is because of the years of research, studies, and pondering.
Your original point (such as it was) contended that romantic love is sexual.

First off, that's an absolute when dealing with human emotions and those almost never hold true. They should have taught you that in Psych.

Second, there is no rulebook for love that says romantic love has to be sexual. Show me where it says that romantic love is defined as sexual love.

Are we not discussing the definition of the term Romantic Love?
No, no we're not. I'm questioning how you think you know so much about this and your answer was that you read it in a book.

Triangle Theory of Love

Love theory states that romantic love is the love that is made up of some part intimacy and some part passion. Passion is sexual.

Ok, NOW we're getting somewhere.

What kind of testing has been done to support this theory?

Survey, case study, there are probably many kinds.

You have not done so. You have sought to win an argument due to my characteristics, this is flawed reasoning and insulting.

There's no point in trying to discuss something with someone if they have no idea what you're talking about.

So lets see them.

Feel free, I don't know that I have access to them.

I agree. Yet i'm not the one going against the definition of terms.

sex=/=sexual

they are not the same thing. You do know the difference between sex and sexual right?

This does nothing to show that one must have sex in order to have romantic love. You can have romantic feelings for someone without having sex. Your using a slippery slap fallacy to argue your point. Romance and even passion do not require sex as sex and sexual feelings are different. Celibacy does not change this one iota.

Are you saying girls must first have sex before they can understand romance novels and passion?

If you are in a relationship and you do not have passion or sexual feelings for the person your with, you should end it. It will only end in heartbreak if you don't.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. I'm not trying to say that sex and sexual are the same thing but that they are related.

Then you cant cite them. If I cant see them, you cant use them as proof.

Because you have such excellent sources that refute it? The dictionary disagrees with you!

You dont even UNDERSTAND the terms, as MoonLancer demonstrates

You are using the wrong term, that is all there is to it.

You are, by your own admissions, completely abstinent and I've not seen you mention any female companions so....I dont know how seriously I can take your conclusions on the subject.

A person with no experience in sex and little in love giving his views on the subjects is rather like a life-long vegetarian giving his thoughts on the best way to cook fillet mignon
Although I agree with the point you're trying to make, I'm not sure this is a fair statement.

Is it fun to be abstinent? Maybe not.
Is it something a lot of people want? Probably not.
Are we compelled toward sexual activity for a number of reasons? You betcha.
But is it impossible for ANYONE to remain abstinent? Absolutely not. To say otherwise is making excuses.

Forget it, you obviously arent interested in any sort of honest discussion and I have no inclination to continue this with someone so petulant they wont admit that maybe, just MAYBE, they dont know everything.

I would contend that for some of us, the benefits of abstinence are outweighed by the costs.
