  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes I am meaning that Catholics are not responsible for all things wrong about Baptisms and should not be collectively labelled.
I agree with you, and that's not what was said. You've misquoted the person whose opinions you are trying to change. I found their post to be quite good. Who is responsible is not the focus, rather, the false conversion is the focus. Let's be fair and stay on target to the opening post.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Paul's saying that he (paraphrasing) "didn't come to baptize". Another of his quotes would be that there is "one Lord, one faith, one baptism". Linking that with Mark 1:8 makes sense. Old baptism was with water ("I didn't come to baptize") and then turns around and says there is "One baptism" (new baptism of the Holy Spirit in Mark 1:8).

Paul's mission was always "to save some". Always. Yet he didn't come to baptize. That is nearly a shocking thing to say, let alone suggest. Yet it makes sense. In 1st Corinthians, Paul deals with certain individuals who seem to be baptizing in the names of even Paul himself, and not the name of our God. He was so frustrated with the confusion that he finally stated that he was "glad that he didn't baptize...." Imagine that? Instead, he said that he came to preach. How frustrating it must have been to see, all too often, church's just falling astray and not getting it. One thing would straiten it all out. Obedience to all of the commands.

If we would obey, we could actually love somebody.
Not here to argue, just to present a teaching that you, along with the majority church view doesn't understand (my signature line). I hope you can read a whole page, without bias, just because it is from me. :) Especially since you expected people to read a pretty lengthy autobiography with your first post.

EPH 4:5 One baptism
EPH 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all.

Remember taking those tests in school where you were supposed to pick out the one thing that didn't fit in a listing of four things? Example: What word doesn't fit in the following list? Rose, lily, carnation, rock. Got the answer? It's rock of course. Now let’s see if that same logic actually applies to the 'one baptism' verse of Eph 4:5. A list that is telling us what “hope of our calling” is.....It is to our ‘call to God’.

EPH 4:5,6 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father…

"One Lord"...is that speaking of you or Jesus?
"one faith"...is that faith in you or faith in Jesus?
"one God and Father...is that like when Isa 9:6 said Jesus' name was "mighty God, Everlasting Father or is it talking about you as a god and father?

Now, we only have one other thing left in that list, and it is the "one baptism". So, the question is: Is this 'a baptism' that pertains to you...or to Jesus?

Scripturally speaking, there is more than ‘one baptism that pertains to the “fundamental” teachings of ‘YOU as a Christian’. if you're going to 'go on' to maturity.

HEB 6:1-2 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

So, if scripture itself says there are multiple “baptisms” pertaining to the doctrines concerning our 'foundational faith' then what “one baptism” might scripture be speaking of, as we read Eph. 4:5?

LUK 12:50 But I/Jesus have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

The baptism spoken of here isn’t with water or the Holy Spirit because Jesus had already had those two baptisms. The baptism spoken of here is the baptism of the death which Jesus still had ahead of Him, on the cross.

ROM 6:3-5 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

This verse above speaks of the only baptism in Luke 12 which Jesus still had not received. And scripture says we identify with Jesus in this baptism of death when we participate in “one” of those ‘foundational baptisms’ (PLURAL) in Hebrews 6. Baptisms which scripture says we should experience in laying down the very foundation of our faith’ before we can go on to maturity. And Ephesians is the only baptism necessary for us to ALL believe in concerning the “hope” of our “call” in Christ. It is the only baptism (“one baptism”) we must cling to, which will determine whether we maintain “the unity of the Spirit” or not. And in the context ‘the unity of the Spirit’ is what Eph 4: is talking about. It is not referencing the ‘unity of the Church’ which is an application that even Paul refutes concerning the 'one water baptism' of nominal church belief.

1CO 1:12-17: …13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you,…

Thank you! I didn't do a very good job, but my point was to expose the idea that our salvation is directly linked to liquid water. If we honestly look at our lives and the quality thereof, I think that we can each make a logical conclusion on the subject. :)

I did something either astonishingly stupid..... or perhaps rather wise back in 1990 a few months after my dad died:

Yom Kippur/The Rapture connection?!

Once you read a bit of that you will have the context ..... but anyway...... I believe that Messiah Yeshua - Jesus likes it when we come to the place where we see our sins........ as NOTABLE sins..... like Barabbas / Bar Abbas.... the man who escaped punishment even though he was guilty of murder, sedition...... and who knows what else........?

I am a terribly proud person......... it leads me to be lukewarm and lethargic spiritually........ This is a sin that is up there with what caused the fall of Lucifer.......... I am a NOTABLE prisoner who has been set free by the Blood of Messiah Yeshua - Jesus.

Ritual water baptism does not save the spirit / soul.
John 3; Ephesians 2; 1 John 1
Right. Jesus came with a new baptism, the one in which Paul refers to when he says "there is one baptism....", which is being immersed, or completely engulfed by and in the Holy Spirit, our Almighty, Powerful Creator of this Universe. This baptism can take place anywhere, any time and even when by yourself. And when Paul said that he "didn't come to baptize", he was referring to water baptism.

Thanks for chipping in.

Looks great! And, I read the entire work that you put forth. I appreciate the time and thoughtfulness that went behind it. Accuracy takes time; I like it a lot. This is the answer to the position that I created for us to explore. Nice work, sir.

Thank you for sharing your story a bit. I can definitely feel a part of what you've experienced; hard times I know.

We all have a cross to bear, that blasted right to sin that we MUST refuse. It is most difficult to not be self-centered, or to not have this "me first" attitude that is so prevalent today. But boy, it sure feels good to genuinely place a full submission to Christ, for that's when we can expect His protection, otherwise, we ought expect nothing. This tells me that perfect freedom comes through perfect submission.

Thanks for chipping in good sir.

Just because you are baptized does not mean that you'll be impeccable for the rest of your life. If baptism were all that was necessary for salvation, Jesus wouldn't have needed to give the apostles a share in His ministry of forgiveness. If baptism revoked your free will, not allowing you to sin anymore, then He wouldn't have chastised the Churches He did in Revelation, because they would've been unable to do anything but what is good.

Baptism can change you, but it isn't a forced conversion. You need to cooperate with the grace that it grants you. You rebelled against that grace, and hopefully you've repented since then.
In fact it's the opposite for many people. The devil comes at you stronger after baptism, and you go through more spiritual attacks so backsliding into sin is fairly common after baptism.

Water baptism is not a requirement for salvation in any way. It is simply a thing we do in obedience to him and as a public declaration of faith. Baptism of the holy spirit is what saves you. Baptism is a ritual we do after we are saved. But if someone doesn't get water baptized after being saved, they are still saved!
