Text: Matt. 24:24
There are denominations that teach and drill into their followers that,
"Once you got it; You can't loose it."
Christ warns us about false prophets, false teachers, coming to deceive the very elect.
Once a person becomes a Christian; it is possible to backslide and loose your eternal soul.
Not your rewards.
But it is possible that having been saved that you can loose your eternal soul!
Acts 11:21-23
" And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church, which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, which he should go as far as Antioch. Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord."
If you are going to remain with the Lord, you are going to have to do what He ordered them to do.
Acts 14:22,23
" Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed."
We see here that the disciples were exhorted in the faith
A man and a woman as to work together if they want their marriage to work.
If both of them don't work at it, then it will eventually fall apart.
Why have shepherds if the sheep cannot go astray.
The sheep can go astray!
Rom.11: 20-2
" Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high-minded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, serverity; but toward thee goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graff them in again. For if thou wert cut of the olive tree which is wild by bature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree."
They are talking about the Jews. The Jews was cut out of the Olive Tree because of unbelief.
The Gentiles was graffed into the Olive Tree because of belief.
God will cut you off if you stop believing.
In verse 22 He is talking about the individual and not the nation.
You know and I know that a Jew can still be saved, individually; if he accepts Christ as Savior.
And individually the Jew can be cut off when he stops believing on Jesus Christ.
1 Cor. 9:24-27
" Know ye not that they which run in a race all, but one receiveth the prize? So run that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway."
You can be like the Apostles and win the whole world, but when you stop believing, You are in danger of being a castaway for the prize.
1 Cor.15:1,2
" Moreever, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand.
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I have preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain."
This shows that if we don't keep the Gospel in memory and if we don't continue to believe then of course we are not being saved.
Gal. 5:1-4
" Stand fast therefore in the liberty where with Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace."
This is talking about falling from the Doctrine of Grace into the Doctrine of law, and thinking he can be saved by being circumcised, and obey the Law of Moses.
He has fallen from grace and he can loose his eternal soul.
If you think you can be saved by anything other than Jesus Christ, than you fall from the Doctrine of Grace into the Doctrine of Law; and the Law can't save you, therefore you would be lost.
Colossians 1:21-23
" And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled. In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight. If we continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister."
What if you don't continue in the faith.??
What if you are moved away from the hope of the gospel..???
Then you are not presented holy, unblameable, and unrebukeable in His sight.
1 Thess.3:5
"For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labor be in vain."
Why was Paul worried about that.??
Because it is possible for preacher labor to be in vain.
Hebrew 4:1,2
" Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, notbeing mixed with faith in them that heard it."
You might not of went through the watery grave of baptism as surely as they went through the Red Sea.
But there was a life to be lived and they had to remain faithful through the wilderness.
Hebrew 6:4-
" For it is impossible for those who were once enlighted, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost. And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come. If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame."
Hardest thing to do is get a backslider back to God.
They have tasted the goodness of God, but you can't seem to get them to taste it again.
They have no appetite for it.
But the man who has never known God has a appetite for it.
Read Hebrews 10:25-32
In verse 25, Paul is speaking to the Christians who should be in Church.
Something worse than death is awaiting the Christian who turns his back on Christ and does not accept what He did upon Calvary's cross with his sins.
It should be a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God.
Hebrews 12:25
" See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven."
We are not going to escape if we turn away from Him that speaketh from heaven.
"For our God is a consuming fire."
James 5:19
" Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way, shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins."
This shows that a brother can sin and he can error from the truth, and someone can convert the brother
2 Peter 2:20-22
" For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth."
It is possible to turn from the Holy Commandment, to go back to the pleasures of the world.
This is why we should be careful and not get entangled in the things of this world.
1 John 2:24
" Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father."
It is possible to not let that remain in you and as a result you do not continue in the Son.
2 John:6-9
" And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son."
Jude 21
" Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life."
Jude 24,25
" Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominionand power, both now and ever. amen."
Rev. 2:4,5
" Neverless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent."
Rev. 3:16
" So then because thou are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."
Rev. 22:18,1
" For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
When you become a Christian, God writes your name in the Lamb Book of Life, Your name is added to the true church.
So, God does have an eraser on the end of His pencil, and you can loose your soul.
Here are some Parables, which also tell you that you can loose your soul.
* The Parable of the Soil
This shows that Eternal Security is not a true doctrine
* The Vine and the Branch (John 15)

* The Unmerciful Servant (Matt. 18:22-35)
I have showed you that the Eternal Security Doctrine is not true
Individual Scriptures deny it
The Parables deny it
But also common sense deny it
There are denominations that teach and drill into their followers that,
