If someone commits suicide and they are saved, will they remain saved? This is a real friend of a family I know, please be kind and not flippant about this. Just trying to get some ideas.
:oRemember: This is a real Family that is really suffering!
This person believed in Jesus already and accepted him as Lord but maybe fell into sin, or depression for some reason or another such as:
Drugs
Mental Illness
Relationships gone bad
Losing a Good Job
Losing everything they had due to the Recession
or
whatever...
Important
:oWill God forgive them for killing themselves and still consider them saved?
Important
:oAre there any real comforting passages from the Holy Word that would help their families out with their grief?
I searched the Forum and did not see this topic yet, forgive me if this topic has already been posted
somewhere, but please pray for this Family (they are real close and enduring much hardship).
Please Quote from the Holy Bible, any translation - need those verses!
Thanks All
Dear brother,
As much as I do not want to hurt you or grieve your friend's family, I must say the truth to you. From what you said,
"This person believed in Jesus already and accepted him as Lord but maybe fell into sin"
May I ask if he has actually repented of his sins which he fell into? Since you are his friend, do you know or has he ever hinted you of signs of depression because of his backslidings?
The Word is very clear that "If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet
walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth." (1 John 1:6)
If your friend has always been walking in darkness and has not really had fellowship with Christ, he is open to the devil's attack and is very vulnerable to spiritual dangers. I really do not know at what point your friend has started to stray, but
it is despairing to see that there is no mature Christians to actually encourage him and bring him back to repentance unto Christ.
This also looms on the failure of most modern churches because they fail to truly shepherd Christ's sheep and warn them against the spiritual fatalness of backsliding into sin.
We can only hope that even though your friend has sinned, he has in his heart repented and sought God's forgiveness though he was overwhelmed by darkness and ultimately sinned in his act.
If God can see that his heart was repentant at the time of his death, even though he failed to stop himself from sinning in action, I believe that your friend is forgiven and will not perish. There is this possibility, so we should not lose hope altogether.
But I do want to exhort you and your friend's family that
we MUST repent of all our sins to receive God's forgiveness. Repentance always comes before forgiveness and salvation, this we ought not to compromise to the detriment of our own souls and those of our brethren. Now, may I encourage you and your friend's family with the following verses:
Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord
is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but
in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally,
brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. (Philippians 4)
Let us pour out our hearts to God and all our sorrows unto Him who loves us! Give no more occasion to the devil to wreck havoc and to kill, steal and destroy anymore! Have faith in God, stand steadfast in Him, resist the devil and he will flee from you! Fix our hearts and minds on God and Christ and He will strengthen us!
