  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If murder is a sin, then why did God create murderers?

You people keep ignoring the Christian moral viewpoint on things, which, being as ignorant of it as you you are, you can be forgiven; and you also keep bringing up new topics which have nothing to do with the original question, which I suspect is by design, because you're either trying to steer away from the original topic, or else you just plain like to argue.

In either case, I think we all know where the other stands, and I'm sharp enough to recognize an exercise in futility when I see one, so my feeling is that further exchange on this topic is a waste of time for everyone concerned.

Ergo, I will retire from the thread after this post. You stay in your world (which I want absolutely no part of, thanks) and I'll stay in mine. I think we'll all be much happier that way.

Put yourself in their shoes. A supreme, powerful being told them not to do something.
i'M TRYING TO PUT MYSELY IN THEIR SHOES... AND i CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW ONE COULD KNOW IT WAS RIGHT TO FOLLOW gOD'S COMMANDS BEFORE KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG. (oops, sorry caps)

I don't think it matters who told them to do what or what not to do... if you don't know the difference between right and wrong, how can you be blamed for doing something wrong?

This is actually a pretty cool question for a heavy discussion, one that I am probably not qualified to answer. But it's something I never really thought about....I'm sure I could get a straightforward answer if I spoke to my pastor or something. .....

A study note from my Bible (The MacArthur Study Bible) states this about Gen 2:17 "To "die" has the basic idea of separation. it can mean spiritual separation, physical separation, and/or eternal separation. At the moment of their sin, Adam and Eve died spiritually, but because God was merciful they did not die physically until later (5:5). There is no reason given for this prohibition, other than it was a test. There was nothing magical about that tree, but eating from it after it had been forbidden by God would indeed give man the knowledge of evil--since evil can be defined as disobeying God. Man already had the knowledge of good."

I do enjoy asking thought provoking questions.
