  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If God is a he, how could he be?

I mean, if God has a gender, would that not suggest he/she is a product of sexual reproduction or possibly just mere concept of human imagination maybe?
Why is the Christian God a male?
Because the religion was invented in a patriarchal society, and like all religions it conforms to how the culture's views itself - is it any wonder the Jews created a religion wherein they were the chosen people, where the male clergy created a male deity?

Would you mind explaining this more please?
God is the father, Mary is the mother, Jesus is the son - that's sexual reproduction! And it's not as if God was impregnated by the seed of Monty (implying God is female), but rather God impregnated Mary (implying God is male).

Or maybe he's like Mystique - he can morph into a woman to be impregnated, or morph into a man to impregnate?

Yeah pretty much this. Question - does that mean god has coveted his neighbor's wife? Doesn't that make him like... blow up or something?

God is communicating with human. Among humans, male was (and still is) the authority. God uses a language which human can understand.

That is why. Very simple logic.

I don't see why God being a male or female is to be taken literally. He ain't got the parts, ergo the question doesn't apply.

But yeah, gender can (maybe) transcend biology, as in there are "female" parts to God (care, compassion), and "male" parts (justice). Eckhart (who rocks) put it this way:

God is not only a Father of all good things, as being their First Cause and Creator, but He is also their Mother, since He remains with the creatures which have from Him their being and existence, and maintains them continually in their being. If God did not abide with and in the creatures, they must necessarily have fallen back, so soon as they were created, into the nothingness out of which they were created.

So could he have Jesus with a dude instead? I mean, that would be chill right?
