Chimpanzees are found in secondary re-growth forests, open woodlands, bamboo forests, swamp forests, and even open savanna with bands of riverine forest and forest savanna mosaic. In these areas they seldom venture far into the savanna except to move from one forest patch to the next.

It appears as though Jane Goodall, who actually lived among and studied them, thinks they were inclined to stay in forest and jungle areas unless forced out by some dire intervention. There was no human intervention, like de-forestation way back when your scenario supposedly took place... so, I'm still wondering what made them leave unlimited forests and their natural habitat for open grassland (permanently)?

An honest answer doesn't necessarily make it the correct answer. I'm just saying ask yourself what could have happened (if it actually did) other than the book answers, which would have caused such an un-natural move. The books speculate some, why can't you? What other possibilities are there... of course you won't consider any.

All the answers that have been given are speculation since no-one has a time machine that allows us to go back to that specific point in time to see what happened.
And yes, what other possibilities are there? I'll consider scientific ones, and I'll consider factual ones.

It is the complete opposite to the answers that have been given since the answers you have been given are based on scientific speculation from scientific evidence of the world we live in, God's actual creation. You might call it 'macroevolution regurgitation' or some other drivel that's supposed to make you feel superior about yourself, but it doesn't change the fact that you don't have anything to support your claims except faith.
That's why you're seen as dishonest with this line of questioning.

And secondly: scientific speculation, which is essentially another form of hypothesis, is based on information draw from the facts that we have. Facts based on the real world. Faith does nothing of the sort.

They are an example of exactly what I described: a forest dwelling primate, that can and does venture into the savanna.

In addition modern chimps aren't the only apes, nor are they the ancestors of modern humans.
