:help: Okay, I'm still a little new to the language, but I was wondering if anyone out there was willing to help me in my quest of learning Japanese. I love the language, and I would love to go to Japan when I get old enough. My friend and I will start short conversations with "Hello." and "How are you?" (in Japanese, of course) but we can't seem to get anywhere because we only know the basics.
Anywo, I was just wondering if anyone was willing to help me. Thanks ahead for all who help!! ^_^

Japanese is the hardest language that I've ever tried to learn. Spent almost a year on it and I ended up failing. I'd reccommend real lessons, unless you're an old hand at learning languages by yourself.

The language itself seems easy (except for the alphabet and the kanji and all that stuff)...In my opinion, the only downside to it is that the sentences are longer. But besides that, I think it would be pretty easy to learn. Right now, I'm trying to learn the grammar and sentence structure (just because I've been using books and an English-to-Japanese dictionary...I'd like to be able to pick out words to make sentences and for them to be right) Where would I be able to find real lessons?

Yeah, Japaneese is a difficult language, I believe there are several different alphabets,
3. Hiragana, Katakana, and Kangi. The first two have 54 letters each, and the third is a near copy of the Chinese alphabet set . . . which contains a symbol for each word.

of course english is also an extreemly tough language, and you learned that when you were 2. Good luck
True, but I don't speak English that well even though I learned it when I was 2.

Well, a local college or community college usually has various language classes. Also there are private companies that provide language lessons, you can probably find a couple through a web search or a phone book. The last option that I can think of is to pretty much do what you're doin . . . trying to find someone to talk to, but I doubt you'll be able to work your way up to a conversational status just through that means. A community college would probably be your best bet.

Would I be able to do something like that at my age, to go to a community college?
Yes. You might have to illustrate that you're a serious student, depending on the college, but I took a few classes at a community college when I was younger than you.

OK, I know this is probably a stupid question, but who was Lao Tzu?

Here is some basic background information on Lao Tzu. He is entirely unrelated to Christianity in pretty much every way.

I was excited there for a moment...I had never had a thread that was on page 5.....so much for that
Don't worry, eventually you'll get a thread with a lot of replies. Sometimes it's just luck.

Besides, you should want the thread to stay on course on it's own merits when that happens, so you know that it's your idea that is the creating the interest.

OK, I'm using this site for information of Japanese grammar, and I was wondering what everyone's opinion about it is. Is it correct? And do you think it would help a lot? I've taken about 14 pages of notes off of there, and I've found it extremely useful. Just wondering.

This is the link...
