But we're called everything but what's in our profiles, right?

Liars, cheaters, hypocrites, deceivers -- we're all that and more, aren't we?

I'm just encouraging Christians to live up to their standard - and I don't see fuzion's profile reading "foolish and needs guidance", so why whine about not being called whatever's in your profile when you guys do it just as much?

It's a much easier thing to show that someone is being a liar or a hypocrite than to show that one personal interpretation of such a vague text as the Bible has any weight over another.

Cute.

And you don't see mine reading OEC, YEC, Omphalos, Last Thursday, or Freak in a Freak Storm, either -- do you?

Where are you when we're being called all that stuff?

Or are you just being selective?

How about you guys clean up your own houses first, before you whine about others?

Excuse my french but how the hell do you believe in evolution and God. Do you not know he who was is and has yet to come. Why so foolish? Do you not understand the contradictions of evolution and the creator. Are you that lost in the world. You cannot believe in two things that contradict eachother. One that says it forms itself and the other(God) who says I am the creator. You truely need guidance. It is not science people are afraid of it is the misusuage of science to lead people astray and away from God that people are frustrated about. Science is only good when it does not lie, but it seems it has brainwashed you into its lies and for that I am saddened :(

it makes me sad to see someone thinking this way.

There are a very great many very intelligent and educated people who dont have any problem reconciling science with their faith.
Science is only good when it does not lie, but it seems it has brainwashed you into its lies and for that I am saddened.

This would you know, involve the entire worlds scientific community being in on the lie. A lie of such massive proportions that it reaches into every field of hard science! Not a remotely reasonable idea. Nor is there a way to fit the word "brainwash' in here and make a bit of sense.

No, really you have it backwards and that is sad.

YOU have believed from somewhere the lie that there is an inerrant translation of the bible and that only one way of reading it is the One True Way.

That particular One True Way is found to be at odds with reality.

If God made the world then it is His work, is it not? And the actual record written indelibly in the very rocks is that the world is ancient and life developed slowly over time.

The contradiction is between people's belief that they are inerrant, and the reality that they are not.

Work on that one. It may be difficult but thats how it is.

You want to encourage science to live up to your asinine standards, I encourage Christians to live up to their actual standard

Yeah, I acknowledged that, read the post again - my point is it doesn't justify you doing it either. You guys are the Christians, you're supposed to be better than us, try start acting like it.

How about you guys clean up your own houses first, before you whine about others?

Right back at you, Christian.

Remind me how much Jesus just absolutely adored when people who spoke in his name were being hypocritical?

I [think I] know what you're doing.

You know she's a newbie here, and that first impressions are the lasting ones; so you're going after her acting like she's doing something here you guys don't routinely and automatically do -- trying to discourage her.

Hopefully, she will see through that.

That's why I gave her some words of encouragement.

wow, your ignorance astounds me. Do you really believe that every religious person thinks like you?? Do you really think that it's god vs evolution and no other world view is acceptable from a religious person?

The theory of evolution says nothing about god, or even how life started. Nothing. It has nothing to do with god or religion, it is a simple explanation for the diversity of life on this earth, nothing more. Religious people take the theory and compare it to what their doctine says and sometimes have problems with it, but that is about the religion, not about evolution.

Even so, religion and evolution are not polar opposites. Many religions and religious people have no problem with evolution. The pope and most of the bishops in the UK accept both evolution and god in their worldview. The pope has said evolution is not in contradiction with the catholic church, that god started it all. Many christian scientists do not deny evolution. You can believe that god started life and that it evolved as he knew it would. You can believe that he guides evolution. You can believe whatever you want to, and as religion has shown us over and over some people don't even need a good reason to believe.

Having said all that, your ignorance is actually a blessing. Because of people like you some people do see this evolution vs religion battle, even though scientists and many religious people don't see it like that. The fact you want to see it like that is good because at the end of the day there is a mountain of real evidence for evolution, and literally none for your view of god, so in the end reasonable people will assess the evidence and evolution will win out.

In my country the latest poll showed a majority of religious people accepted evolution, and of course virtually all non-religious people do. While it still bothers me that some people out there reject it without good evidence, thankfully we are a bit more socially advanced than some other countries out there.

Be gentle now, she doesnt mean any harm she just is not very informed in this. She seems very sincere.

Given some guidance she might well be able to see that belief on the one hand, in ones personal inerrance and on the other, the contrary evidence of all the work of the world's scientific community that says that one is wrong...

maybe that will begin to work itself out in her mind, toward a more reasonable view.

Your profiles are misleading -- why trust them?

Liars, cheaters, hypocrites, deceivers -- we're all that and more, aren't we?

Less, actually.

(Please spare me, "If the shoe fits" or "If it walks like a duck...")

Truth hurts, don't it?

Ya -- you're going to use my rant as a steppingstone to keep on insulting, aren't you?

You just can't help it, can you?

No different from what you do on a regular basis - but like I said, I'm holding you to your actual standard, not a made-up strawman version like you do with science.

I [think I] know what you're doing.

You know she's a newbie here, and that first impressions are the lasting ones; so you're going after her acting like she's doing something here you guys don't routinely and automatically do -- trying to discourage her.

And that makes it ok for her to do it....why?

If a murderer tells you that murder is wrong, does that justify you going out and gunning someone down because it's totally ok if the other guy's doing it?

But as I recall, I don't go around questioning people's Christianity - as a former TE I knew exactly what that felt like, all too well - so I think you have me mixed up with someone else. Like a creationist, perhaps - they make a pretty good habit of thinking their personal interpretations give them the right to go around denouncing their brothers in Christ.

Jesus said not to call a brother fool - so why aren't you giving some advice to our newbie about that? Or are we just going to do the "not a True Christian (tm)" / "fool means atheist" merry dance? Or perhaps this is one of those very-good-means-perfect "literal" verses?

Hopefully, she will see through that.

Hopefully, she will see through creationism's hollowness.

That's why I gave her some words of encouragement.

With friends like you....

You consider it an insult for Christians to live up to a Christian standard?

I guess you would -- a Christian standard is about personal humility, not personal glory.

You might want to check that post again, then; specifically the very first word.

In any case, I'm in the mood right now to do this with posts that mention how we need an education, regardless of typos.

It's fun to make fun of those who think they are smarter than us -- or know more.

Um ... if your "humiliation" consisted of correcting my original post that it was the Parliament -- not the king -- that did that, then I suppose, in your mind, you did.

"While"?

Totally ignoring their point in the most immature way possible is going to be proving their point somewhat.....

It's fun to make fun of those who think they are smarter than us -- or know more.

It's even funnier that you think this proves anything and that it's effectively self-pwning.
