• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Yes, but play that whole senario out, what will happen after you take the pill, you will feel better, than what go to sleep. Sounds good. But they what will happen when you wake up? You will need more right. You will be in the same place as you were before you did it. :) Always good to let Satan know that he is a lier, he wants you to use again, but you have god on your side, he has no power over the believer.

Once I was working on one day, it was a hard one, but they got easier and easier, you read my testimony, I can let you know more if you would like, it would take me weeks, months to probly even remember all of the bad things that I have done. :(, but it just goes to show the power of god.

Man I'm so screwed. I'm working on getting one day....JUST ONE DAY!

A lot of people have heard "Setting the Capitives free". They have several free online courses. I have not been through the on for drugs and alcohol addictin, but I have been through the one for sexual addictins. It was a good bible based course. You might give it a look:

9 months the 4th of next month.
 EXCELLENT!

Is it really necessary to slam NA merely because some people become attached to it? NA is very clear that it has no opinions on outside issues, which includes that it doesn't say that other things won't work.

All I know is that it works every time it's tried, and the vast majority of the time when someone leaves they end up using again. So don't be too hard on people for thinking that nothing else works. It ended up being an important part of my path back to the Church.

It happens just one moment at a time. Don't worry about years - go minute by minute and the time will take care of itself.

It's been 6891 days for me (18 years, 10 months, and 12 days). One day at a time, and all by the grace of God.

I could never have done it without the people He put in my life. He didn't design us to do this stuff alone.

I don't mean to come off sounding like I want to bash NA. I went to NA, and the one thing that I just couldn't get out of my head, is how much better would this work if this was all based on the bible, rather that and NA book. I think that to many people because slaves to NA, it doesn't work for them, they work for it. I am free today, and in NA, they would all look at me and say, keep coming back, or something, I can't help but see how robotic it is, and how while it helps some with addictions, it doesn't help those with what we all really need, and that is jesus. Some people in there would rather go to a meeting, rather than go to church. Some in there would rather read the NA text, than read the bible. So has NA become god to some, has the text become the bible to some, I think it has, and I feel I need to enlighten people, getting clean is not going to get you to heaven, no what I mean.

Ugh that requires committment. I don't know if I can do that.

It is a commitment, your right. But do you really want to be free? I know that I could not get free until it was destroying my life. Do you really want to wait that long?. It is true that God is the one who will set you free, but you have to accept this freedom. I have been addicted to all kinds of drugs and alcohol, and about everything else you can think of. I have been free of drugs and alcohol for about 6 years. Porn for about 2 years and cigaretts for about 2 years. I am still suffering the physical as well as the spiritual effects of these things in my life, and probably always will, unless the Lord sees fit to heal me. The only commitment that is required is to go to the computer for about 15-30 minuits a day and let others help you. You are the only one who knows if you are in trouble. You have been down this road before. I can tell you that it is worse the second time, and worse yet the third time. You have a long life ahead of you. Do everything you can to get free and spend your life with the Lord. It will be worth it. God bless you.

Can we take a little poll here. I'd like to know how long everyone who responded to this thread has been sober.

12 years clean and sober by the grace of God through the 12 steps and fellowship of the AA/NA program.

AA/NA wasn't the road to heaven or hell, but it kept me sober long enough to figure out which way I wanted to go.

Congratulations to everyone with 1 day and up

Let me ask you a question...............You got something better to do????????????
Let's knock off all the B.S. and cut right to the bone shall we??.....Little girl, you have a disease that's got you by the ass, and it wants to kill you. AND IT WILL IF YOU LET IT. Ive buried a 1/2 dozen kids (and I highly stress the word kid) your age in the past 3 yrs. because they were to busy trying to pick and choose the conditions under which they got sober instead of taking direction from good sponsors and more expierienced people. You are in no position to be dictating conditions, because your disease will gladly do it for you. Start with this fact......You can't save your face and your ass at the same time. The sooner you figure out which one you want to save the sooner you can get on with the process of saving it. Admit your licked, get to a meeting, get a sponsor(female) and start taking direction from someone else who cares.

This is what I mean, it is hard for me to take someone serious, and I think it is just as hard for someone to listen to someone that is going to talk to them that way. NA can help, but it is not the answer to drug addiction, only god is.

I used to be addicted to drugs...I would do methadone and Oxycontin and acid and ecstasy and speed and pot. I gave all that up. But now whenever I go to the doctor and get a new prescription for like codeine or hydrocodone...how do I explain it....i take it more than I should and I take more than i should....and I like it.....a lot. The bad thing is I get sick a lot. So Im on these medications a lot... am I addicted to prescription medication? Is that the same as a drug addiction? Am I a bad person now? I"m so confused. I go to church and I have a good family now. I'm so confused.

There are no ifs, or buts about it, you are addicted, and you need help.

And yes, it will take commitment on your part, and a lot of hard work, prayer, and social support to get clean.

But I assure you of this...

If your drugs are more important to you than Jesus, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Right now you are a prisoner to your habit, and you have a choice to make.

You know what you ought to do. There is no real confusion.

I believe you know that what you are doing is wrong.

Keep this in mind: You see, the medication was made not to make you high, but for treating pain, caused by some sickness or ailment.

By using it for the purpose of getting high, you are abusing it. Therefore, you are a drug substance abuser.

There is something else I don't think you realize here other than the fact that you could forfeit your place in heaven over this issue. You are also damaging your liver. And after doing this for a prolonged amount of time, you will eventually suffer illness like you've never imagined, because your liver will eventually shut down.

Get help now before it's too late!
