• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm glad to hear that you've opened up to the people in your life, and that your dad's being supportive. Yep, kicking is a bear, but just hang in and you'll get through it.

I dont know what to do anymore.
Turn your will and your life over to the care of God, and pray for the knowledge of his will for you and the power to carry it out. Then whatever situation you find yourself in, do the next right thing.

You can do this, by His grace through the help of the people He brings into your life. Just hang on tight and don't use no matter what.

I am ready to flip out. I can't sleep! I'm like wigging out! It's 7:37 am and I am freaking out! I could totally snap at any minute...I almost flipped out on my boyfriend this mornign and broke up with him. What the heck is wrong with me???

It's part of the process, rfprewitt. Emotions that were being controlled by the drugs before are now all over the place. The mind races at 100 mph, not allowing sleep.

This will pass as you start learning to deal with the emotions. What you are experiencing at the moment is normal when going through withdrawels.

Have you considered going to an NA meeting? You will realize there that what you are going through is not abnormal.

I tried to talk to my dad about it this morning and he's like "it's all psychological...you arent physically addicted...your mind just tricks your body into thinking you are". I was like "what?". He's never been into drugs. I'm so confused. My brain will not stop. It's like I'm really anxious or something. I'm just freaking out. We talked about NA...my dad wants me to talk to his pastor friend first. I dunno. How do I calm down? Can I???

I went through that with my parents also. My father especially thought that will power alone should be sufficient to put me back on the straight and narrow. Trying to live up to his ideal kept me from seeking out help for a number of years before finally giving up and going to NA.

I feel for you with what you are going through at the moment. I still remember when I was going through similar stuff over 12 years ago. I keep it reasonably fresh in my mind because the memory of it has kept me from picking up a drink or drug through over the years. God willing, I never want to have to go through that again.

A morning meditation helps to focus the mind and make the day go easier. A few meetings with others going through the same thing helps tremendously.

Here is a link for some daily meditations.
There are others available on the net also.

Well, I say go to an NA meeting. I am not really a big fan of them, but you need to atleast learn about addition. NA is the best place to learn about addiction, you father, not being an addict, can not help you. He can be there for you, but this is a fight you will have to be in without him, if you would like I can school you on the 101 of addiction, I have been clean for 9 months yesturday, and I can help you know all you need to know about addiction if you would like. First thing is, you have to be able to tell the differeance between whatYOU are thinking, and what your addiction is telling you. You are not crazy, but it wants you to think you are, because then you will use again. It is a hard thing to beat, just keep posting here, and I will help. Also go talk to your dads friend, it couldn't hurt, but be leary of peoples advice if they have not be addicted, they don't know as much as they think.

All due respect to your dad, but the physical effects of drug use and withdrawal are very real. A lot of what you're going through is purely chemical, and it will pass with time. Just, whatever you do, DON'T USE!!

I can't stress enough how important I think it is to find an NA meeting and ask the women for help. A huge part of addiction is about our relationships, and although you're getting support from people here there's no replacement for a real flesh and blood person to see and hear. And although I'm sure that your pastor is a good man of God, you may find that you won't be able to open up to him as readily as to someone who's actually been in your situation.

How about you find out where there's a meeting tonight (NA or AA), and tell your dad that you need help now and that you'll see your pastor this evening before the meeting if he's available? Otherwise, go to the meeting tonight and you can and see him tomorrow.

You should be able to find local phone numbers for NA and AA. The NA website is here: http://www.na.org/links-toc.htm

You need to be educated on addiction, NA is a good place for that, just don't fall into some of the things that goes on there. I don't agree with NA, don't let the NA book become your bible, and DON'T let NA become your god, because remember it is the GOD of the bible that brought you there in the first place, if NA memeber would understand this, it would be so much better, some of them will fight, you can see the pain on there faces, but remember you are not like them, you have god, and they have something you want, knowledge of addiction, nothing more, listen, pray, and get to a meeting, don't ever go to one without praying first that god, and ONLY god, will enlighten you, because satan is at work in NA, but don't be scared of it, it can be a place of god as well, it should.
