Just as a point of clarification (because this is a
pet peeve of mine :) ) you are aware that
"tooth for a tooth" refers to monetary compensation,
not vengance, yes?

Sorry I just know "tooth for tooth" refers to monetary compensation. This Torah principle is no problem. When someone owe you some money, you certainly have the right of monetary compensation. Just one can personally forgive him the debt when he think it is worthy doing that. I also owe christian something. If real peace for Israel is possible, why choose conflict? But in some cases forgiveness is not necessary.

Shalom, Yosef Hai:wave:

Hubby's boss said he saw it on the Portland news a couple of days ago. Just a quick blub was all. I finally found a news story on it at TV station for the area's website. The DA's office is debating whether or not to treat this as a hate crime.

Unfotuantely its not the first time synagogues in that city have been attacked and damaged.
I'm just speechless.

I think it's time to start emailing newspapers or something along those lines...

(yes, I am an activist at heart)

The news story says the men were "just looking
for a place to party". They just happen to pick
a shul to party in? While destroying the ark
(not just "prying it open") as well as siddurim
and damaging the Torahs? Yet take nothing
of value or damaging the computers etc?
And they are debating about calling this a
"hate crime"- if this doesn't fit the definition
of a hate crime, what does?
The shooting at the EL AL counter in LA,
the shooting in Seattle...those weren't "hate"
crimes either, just "mentaly disturbed people".
Only when it comes to Jews are these things
not hate crimes....:(

I hope you don't mind me sidetracking things for a bit...just to mention not only is it important to
support Israel, but to fight antisemitism everywhere.
Ahavas Torah, our "sister" shul in Eugene Oregon
was broken into and vandelized last Friday AM.
They destroyed the ark, damaged two Torah
scrolls (one of which belongs to my shul),
damaged siddurim, and did other acts of senseless
hatred. Fortunately they caught the three men
while they were still in the midst of their
destructive acts.
What also bothers me is I did not hear of this
on any of the media outlets...something like
this should have made the local news, but I
did not see it mentioned anywhere...

I'm so sorry, Chava :( I don't understand why they don't report it as a hate crime either.

Fed 24: Synagogue ransacked; 2 arrested

Feb 27: A time to speak

Feb 28: Assessing The Damage

nw_vandals.0228.jpg

Paul Feinstein, president of the Ahavas Torah Synagogue in Eugene, stands beside the heavy maple ark that protects Torah scrolls. The scrolls were damaged in a break-in last week, along with prayer books such as the one he holds. Synagogue officials are meeting Friday with city leaders to discuss the crime, which Jewish leaders say has prompted grief and shock in the Jewish community. No decision has been made about whether to charge the two transients who were arrested at the synagogue Thursday with a hate crime. The investigation is continuing.

While they don't mention it in the caption, anyone who has ever seen an Ark can see this one is totally destroyed and that it took a lot of effort to do so.

So far I can find nothing further about what the DA decided on the charges, if the other 2 have been caught or any other new information ...

Who are these Jews who dare to speak for all Jews? A more clear symbol would be a pin of the flag of the nation state called Israel. Wear the symbol if it makes you happy.

Symbols mean whatever the person using the symbol says they mean to them. For you, the star means something other than "I am Jewish". It certaily means something different to the occultist and buddhist than it does to Jews.

As for HadassahSukkot's comments about in groups, out groups and Wannabes: Why someone would want to identify themself with a group and in so doing make themself instantly hated by the enemies of that group is beyond me. Why members of the group object is , arrrrg, false pride makes me upset. False pride leads to haughtiness. GD says IT hates haughtiness. I have no doubt that much of the murder in the mid east and the world comes from haughtiness. How else to justify slaughter? It is creepy. No one will accept some one else saying or acting like they are better than they are. Compared to GD we are just talking monkeys. All this haughtiness and false pride breeds hatred among people all over the world.

Part of the reason I prefer Reform congregations to others is that they are not full of false pride like the unltra observent or the inbetweeners (Conservatives).

How much better the world would be for Jews if the Jewish homeland were South of Texas and North of Mexico in an area that spaned the Gulf of Mexico and the Sea of Cortez. The mid east is polluted with too much blood, Devils, and Cruelty. I would support such a state by opening a beach resort in it.

Hey MD i don't think I am better than the others. I know myself too well to swell. Nice thought though. Do you have friends who are Rabbis and who have to deal with haughty attitudes in their congregations? IT SUCKS.

False pride and haughtiness are universal tendencies of fallen human nature, and no one group has a monopoly on them. We are ALL guilty before God.
Correct. And it is so silly. for example in Japan there is a bias against people who are desendants of woodworkers. We are an insane species.

It's recently come to my attention that jews are offended by christians that wear jewish symbols, like the magen David or a menorrah, or something like that.

I'm curious to know if there is someway that those who support Israel can show support for Israel and jews without offending them.

I'm starting this thread so you guys can give some idea's to us, or maybe we can run a few by you guys.

One idea has been blue and white ribbons that read, "I support Israel"

I started another thread just like this one over in the non-christian forum so jews can speak more freely over there if they wish to.

Wow, what a mature, christian attitude you have there. I always think it funny when people say "F U" to everyone, that is so intelligent..you really told them, eh?

In the first Chinese Messianic website it is said by the Rabbi that Communist(Which was founded by Max) China is a country that supports Israel. haw:eek:

anti-Semitism maybe is more serious in Christianity than in Communist , including China. Hmm, not including christian if he/she keeps apart from it.
