  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been on this board for a while now asking for any scientific evidence that the Bible is not 100% accurate and true. So far no one has come up with anything other than the skeptics Bible which can be dealt with as a whole unit. People either have the mind of Christ or they have a reprobate mind and that is pretty much the extent of it.
I've been on this board long enough to see countless people throw endless evidence at you, and to see you dismiss it all because it doesn't confirm what you already believe.

So yes, perhaps it does come down to a person's mindset.

Never once has anyone ever shown me evidence that the Bible is not 100% accurate and true. If you have seen so many examples then I am sure you would be glad to share some of those examples for us.

Prove to me that 3 thousand years ago John the farmer didn't levitate above the ground for a full 5 minutes.

Either way there is still no scientific evidence that the Bible is not 100% accurate and true.
They only use science when they can make an antibiblical point with it.

If they used science in the real world like they do with our beliefs, they wouldn't be employed very long.

They don't investigate before they communicate, they change words and phrases, and they don't employ their own principles (such as general relativity) to make certain passages clear in their minds.

I sometimes think that the Antichrist's 666 is actually a scientist's ???, but the Bible says otherwise, so let them keep on wondering how God did this and that, and we'll keep on explaining it to them. :)

Cearbhall, just out of curiosity, is your The Bible is Circular Logic meme a UU doctrine?

I know scientists believe it; but I'm confused how someone with a flaming chalice avatar can be so hard-nosed about our sacred Scriptures.

Unless, of course, science trumps your UU doctrines; then I understand.

I went through a cardiac rehab program that was heavy on exercise and diet. This is where the rubber really meets the road. Lots of CEO's are using fake science to try to convince people that their poison is good for you.

I know you like to concentrate on true science vs fake science. Like fake news there is plenty of fake science out there to keep you busy for a long time.

Who is "John the farmer"? If your talking about the Visions that Exekiel had then what evidence do you have that he did not have those visions?

I have had dreams in my life that I wish I had understood the meaning of. Because by the time I got it figured out it was too late to avoid what I needed to avoid.

It's a good thing they don't stand around arguing what this or that word in their medical journals mean in Hebrew or Greek, or go around changing certain words to something else; or we'd all be in trouble.

A strawman.
I do not understand the strawman. What does a vision have to do with scientific evidence for or against the person having the vision.

A man that levitated above the ground for a full 5 minutes. And I am justified in believing it is true until you prove that it didn't happen.
Could you just give me the chapter and verse that you are wanting me to look at.

Is that good enough for you? If it were written in a book?

EDIT: Clearly you mean as a starting point to assess the claim. I shouldn't have responded so quickly. Ha.

LOL -- this is solid gold.

I just went through a spiel with another poster who falsely accused dad of making things up; now this John the Farmer thing.

Higher academia and irony ... they go hand-in-hand.

OBVIOUSLY John the levitating farmer is an analogy. joshua 1 9 said, "Never once has anyone ever shown me evidence that the Bible is not 100% accurate and true." As if that were a good reason to believe it.

Okay how do we do that? We can't prove/disprove it 100%, now can we? What we can say is there is insufficient evidence for the supernatural claims made. Global flood, the Exodus, and so on.

one falsification of the fallibility of scripture is all it would take. As to flood, it doesn't say global...as to the Exodus, I recently read an article that said that archaeology just uncovered ancient remains consistent with the story...infallible...and so on and so on.

I think it seems pretty clear in the Bible that it is talking about a global flood, but perhaps it wasn't. How can I definitively prove it? But that's the thing, isn't it? I can say, obviously the Sun can't stand still in the sky for any length of time. But that's just another one of God's miracles. We can try to show any number of scientific impossibilities and it can be waved away with little effort. You'll have to excuse us if we don't want to play the special pleading game again.
