I remember my father doing the morning milk run by horse and cart , delivering milk bottles to peoples houses.
And on rare occasions we would be allowed to go for a spin with him around the block.

Cars and vans were around but for some reason the horse and cart were favored.

I wasn't a "comic book kid" when this show came out ( I'm thinking I was in 3rd or 4th grade), so it was a shock to see the comic book version of Batman years later. I had it in my head that the campy Batman was the original.

I'm a year younger and I wasn't really familiar with the comic book version either. The great thing with that show is it was an adventure series for little kids, and a comedy for their parents.

MeTV was showing Batman- I don't know if they still are, and it was very tongue in cheek funny.

We asked our mother why she ironed underpants and socks because nobody will ever see them , and her answer was well what if you get run over by a bus , still trying to figure that one out .....
Lol! Yes, that was something our mother use to warn us about, too ...
getting in a car accident or being run over by a bus!

... car or bus, we sure were ready for it!

Exactly the same here. I liked the TV show but one day an older kid gave me a DC Batman comic, where Batman was this "conflicted" superhero. It was dark and depressing. One day in the '80's this guy told me they were making a Batman movie. I asked him is it going to be serious like the comic or fun like the TV show. He said serious. Meh, not interested, but to each his own.

I remember spending many a friday and saturday night in these cells. We were teenagers caught for under age drinking and spent a lot of time here.

What you are seeing are the actual cells and are today a tourist attraction.
It's hard to believe I slept comfortable in there but we did.

Everyone had a sense of humour back then , the cops would sit out side the cells drinking our beer and complimenting us on our choice of beer , and we would shoot back comical remarks. Fun was had on both sides.

No wonder we all grow up believing in space & all their garbage.
I think you are right.

When I look back at the things that were 'promoted' back when I was younger, I can see now how many of those things strongly influenced my formation as a person. Some for good, some for not-so-good.

Yes I remember on Saturday mornings they'd show those old black and white comedies. I really loved the Laurel and Hardy movies. After a while I noticed they showed the same movies over and over again. I asked my mom "when are they going to make a new movie?" She said "they can't, honey, Stan Laurel is dead". I realized he wasn't just a character, but a real person. And that was the first time I realized death is real, and permanent. I was very sad for Stan. :(

I remember when we got a TV with a remote control. We didn't have to get up and walk across the room anymore!

I have heard that if you still have the set of four and in good condition , that they are worth a fortune today.
Sadly I have never met anyone who saved all four.

I was a HUGE Beatles' fan as a young girl, and yet I never heard of these wigs! :grinning:

Some kids seem to face death issues earlier than others.
For me, it was the assassination of JFK that first made me aware of death.
Those moments do indeed leave one with a lasting memory.

Laurel and Hardy were a loveable couple of guys.
The Three Stooges were popular back then, but frankly the (violent) humor seemed harsh to me as a young person.
Now, much older, I can appreciate their silliness abit more.

Same with "The Honeymooners". The angry scenes ("Ralph"/Jackie Gleason) were abit too harsh for me as a kid.
But I get it, as an adult.

My all-time favorite black and white oldie is "I Love Lucy".
You'll still hear it playing in my house at times ...

I remember (when I began driving at age 15) that gasoline was16.9 cents/gallon (down on River Road), and 21.9 cents/gallon at the most expensive gas station in town (and the prices remained the same, under 25 cents/gallon, that is, until I was 23 years old, if memory serves).

My first car was a 68 Ford Torino with a Boss 302 V8 engine in it (and it used a carburetor). It got about 7-8 miles/gallon, but back then that didn't matter very much since it typically cost me a total of $3.00 +/- to fill my 20-gallon tank when it was on empty.
