My name is Brendan-Benedict Drown, and I am a Rassaphore Monk in an Eastern Catholic Church. I live in Phoenix, Arizona, along with my monastic superior in a small apartment that we call a hermitage, under the protection of Our Lady, the Life Giving Fountain. I am 65 years old and disabled. My dad was a jeweler, so I grew up in the Jewelry Industry. I have a lifetime of sales and customer service experience.
I am also an artist. I use a computer to produce what I call Binary Art, which I do attempt to sell from time to time. (Write me privately, and I will be willing to show you some of my work.
I grew up in the Roman Catholic Church. I did some wandering when I was fresh out of high school, but my beliefs began to settle down starting when I was 26 years old. Since then, I have done my best to live for Christ.
A little more than 20 years ago, I met a man who changed my life. He was a Stavrophore monk in an Orthodox Church, and I was able to learn so much from him that on October 28, 2001, I was tonsured a Rassaphore monk, and he is my monastic superior until this day.
Things changed, and Fr. Basil (my superior) and I felt that we were not getting the leadership from the Orthodox Church we felt we needed, so I began to look at Eastern Catholics (I knew from long experience that the Catholic Church might have problems, but it is stable.) After a few bumps along the road, we finally settled down to the Melkite Catholics (Arab Christians). Without a priest, we go to St. John of the Desert Melkite Catholic Church in Phoenix, where we have a wonderful priest, pastor and confessor named Fr. Peter.
So, here I am, a Rassaphore monk for 15 years, in a small hermitage/apartment loving God. What more do I need to say?
