In SDA circles a man can wear a $700 suit and a silk tie with a 24c tie clip wearing a Rolex after driving up in a new Mercedes, but a woman can't wear a $5 necklace she bought at a yard sale. I've seen it happen. Go figure.

Doesn't mean that these men are not in error... there is much hypocrisy and apostacy in our church.

I have always had a problem with the wearing of a suit as a supposed show of piousness. If I seen your local pastor on the street, would I think him a business man or a preacher of the Word. There is a definite pridefullness among many regarding what they wear...

How appealing would our witness be as Christians if we always dressed in dirty sweats and t-shirts? (I hope I don't offend anyone here.)

So you think Jesus or the disciples wore clothing that was never dirty and not completely presentable... it was the message which they gave that enticed the people, not how they looked.

This is where the problems come in. If the clothing attitude is unholy for Sabbath then it's unholy the rest of the week as well. The Sabbath is a blessed day. It's a day to set aside our tools of trade to come from far and near to gather as a people of God. It's a time to share in God's word, it's a time to testify of what God is doing in our lives, it's a time to enjoy each other and build and strengthen our relationships that what are founded in Christ. Swiming on the Sabbath is not a sin, cooking on the Sabbath is not a sin, throwing a Frisbee on the Sabbath is not a sin, playing baseball on the Sabbath is not a sin. Nothing is a sin on the Sabbath if it's not inherently evil.

Mark 3:4 Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

If it's evil to do Sunday thru Friday then it's evil to do it on the Sabbath but if it's not evil to do Sunday through Friday then it's not evil on the Sabbath either. The Sabbath doesn't make good things evil.

Jesus says otherwise...

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

I am wearing my earrings to bed. :)
I did have a anti-tragus ear piercing in each ear last year, but they got infected. One ear was very bad so I took an anti-biotic for a while.
I just don't see the problem with earrings.

This is an anti-tragus, right?

I think different people's customs should be respected. But I really don't see the issue.

The issue is in your intent for 'adorning your body'... I find it hard to imagine a reason that glorifies God but your mileage may vary.

I speak from experience as I have tattoo's that I regret ever getting. I also had a pierced ear but easily took care of that. I know God accepted me where I was at when I came to Him but I would now never dream of desecrating the body that He made, for my own vain imaginings.

You are of course entitled to your preferences and convictions. I just note that in Ezekiel 16.12, for example, the Lord Himself gave earrings to Zion. And even a nose ring. And Rebecca in was given a nose ring by Isaac's servant. So as someone coming independently to the discussion - rather than via your presuppositions - I do wonder whether too much is made of the anti-earring thing.

Still, to each his own. It would be a boring world if everyone thought alike.

PS: are any of your tattoos faith based? (Sometimes tattoos that are unsuitable can be modified into something faith based; e.g., a woman with a tattoo of an ex-bf's name, such as 'Bill' might choose to have it modified by a good tattoo artist into 'Bible', etc.)

As soon as I see the good folks at 3ABN or the Hope channel giving presentations in sweat pants and dirty t-shirts and beat up tennis shoes I will give your response due consideration.

I guess I'm learning just how differently some people think. Though frankly I don't see the problem with studding one's earlobes, for either women or men.

So for you it's ok for an earing or two... for another it's ok for a tattoo or two... for another it's ok for complete body embellishment. The problem with all of these scenarios is, it's about what the individual deems right for themselves, the exact condition that got Lucifer expelled from heaven.

We must be careful to not fall for the trap of "I think..." we should always strive for "God says..."

You see, It's a difference in mindset. Where I see the Lord Himself in passage such as Ezekiel 16.12 give earrings to Zion, and thus find it hard to think that earrings are inherently problematic, you want to link them with Lucifer. Oh well...

You do realize the verse you keep referring to is symbolic, right? Not actual earrings... just like when Christ said to eat His flesh and drink His blood... doesn't justify cannibalism.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (not ourselves)

It's not the only passage where jewelry is mentioned in a positive light. You and I think differently.
