• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

it isn't easy by any means sister!! Maybe you have health insurance that will cover the prescription Chantix - look it up on the internet to see how it works. Some are saying it is the only thing that has ever worked, others say it didn't do a thing. Have you tried the patch? Sometimes that can make a big difference.

The first thing is you have to be determined to quit. Second is that you need to develop an environment that will help you quit i.e. find ways to avoid contact with smokers or limit time with them, reorganize your life so that it is dificult to smoke i.e. make simple rules about smoking outdoors only so not in the car, in the house, at the pub. Also try and break the habit before the addiction i.e. if you smoke first thing after dinner wait 30 minutes or if you smoke when talking on the phone finish talking then smoke.

At the end of the day it comes down to your determination. I have been 2 years quit and it took many failed attempts to get it right. But as they as they say it only takes one success to be successful - after that no one counts your failures. Try and take it one day at a time. When I first started quitting I just kept saying to myself I will smoke in a minute when I have finished this. I kept putting off smoking in an attempt to trick my mind that I wasn't quitting just choosing not to for a little while and then I would forget. Now I don't really think about it at all.

Hoping that you will overcome. God bless.

Hey I just recently quit smoking its been about 1 month. I used nic gum and at first it was weird, well more like different but now I dont hve the urge to smoke but continue to chew the gum. My boss at work told me about it and he says that he has been chewing the gum for 7 years. I dont believe that there are any health risks involved so maybe just switching your method of intake would work. It worked for me. Good luck whatever you do.
