• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have questioned whether I still have the Holy Spirit

So I did a sin back in 2019 which I thought was unforgivable, basically because that's what God told me. I saw the word "UNFORGIVABLE" in my mind when I did the sin. After doing this I got psychosis and had all kinds of wild hallucinations, which lead to suicide attempts as I thought the Holy Spirit left me and I thought I was going to be overtaken by demons.

Since then I have had doubts whether or not I still have the Holy Spirit, I've even thought that I don't have Him anymore.

If I still have Him or had Him, did I commit blasphemy of the Holy Spirit by thinking I don't have Him? I read some posts here that said this is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. I have not denounced Him or wanted Him to leave or anything like that. In fact I very much do want to have the Holy Spirit. But did I do the unforgivable sin by doubting whether I still have Him?

If you have trusted in The Messiah for God's free gift of Eternal Life and have become a born again believer a child of God. Then you have the Holy Spirit and can never lose The Holy Spirit.

This is what some other person said.

Blasphemy is self excommunication in other words you have decided the Holy Spirit is not alive in you. Think about it. Blessings

Is that true? Because I thought He had left me, did I by thinking that blaspheme Him?

That person does not know what he or she is talking about. The only act a believer can do to the Holy Spirit, is grieve The Holy Spirit.

No one can commit Blasphemy of The Holy Spirit as is in Matthew 12. Only The Nation of Israel could have committed the Blasphemy of The Holy Spirit (which they did) and that could have only happened when Jesus was on the earth back when He was here 2000+ years ago.

How do you view Jesus now?

What motivates you to attend church, read the bible and pray?

You do do these things?

The members have spoken, and they are right.
It is very possible to grieve the Holy Spirit by denouncing Him or rejecting Him or His freely offered gifts.
I know. I've seen it done by others right before my eyes, and I felt His grief!

The people who do that, do so out of pride: they don't want His gifts, and they literally turn their backs on Him, and refuse Him.
It is sad and almost unbelieveable that people who are Christians would do such a thing, but they do.

I recite this whenever I have this fear:

"The Holy Spirit, I love You, I respect You, and I appreciate everything You have done for me."
(Deut. 6:5, Eph. 4:25-32, 1 Thess. 5:16-18, 2 Pet. 3:9)

If you genuinely fear that you've committed Blasphemy of The Holy Spirit (BoTHS), then chances are you didn't. BoTHS results from complete lack of faith in God due to selfish ambition (Gal. 5:19-21, John 11:45-48, Luke 16:13-15, 20:45-47, Mark 12:38-40). A prime example are the Pharisees trying to discredit the Lord Jesus Christ by deliberately and calculatingly slandering Him as demonic (Luke 11:14-28, Mark 3:20-30, Matt. 12:22-45). Intrusive thoughts aren't BoTHS, they're spiritual attacks designed to destroy your faith (John 10:10 vs. Eph. 2:8-9, Heb. 11, Luke 17:5-6, Mark 11:12-26, Matt. 17:19-21).

If your state becomes much, MUCH worse than your pre-salvation state, then that's never a good sign (Luke 11:24-26, Matt. 12:43-45). I've seen people engage in criminal activities after BoTHS.

It is also very possible for the Holy Spirit in one person to recognise the presence of the Holy Spirit in another person. The closest that I could describe that recognition is that of one magnet attracting another magnet, where the magnetic force contained in both magnets quite literally pulls one magnet to the other magnet until there is no space between them.

Father Don Miller, updated by Father Thomas Santa (Liguori Publications and Scrupulous Anonymous, https://scrupulousanonymous.org/wp-.../Ten_Commandments_for_the_Scrupulous_2013.pdf) wrote the following:
You shall put your total trust in Jesus
Christ, knowing he loves you as only
God can and that he will never allow
you to lose your soul.

Jesus Christ is my Lord and Saviour.

I have been backsliding recently and haven't really been doing much Godly things, except for the occasional prayer. Today I did listen to the audio Bible.

A good prayer is the simple "Help" to God. God's mercy and love is so great, far beyond human comprehension.

A good prayer is the simple "Help" to God. God's mercy and love is so great, far beyond human comprehension.

Truth:

The Model Prayer
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
~Matthew 6:5-15 (NKJV)

9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
~Psalm 91:9-11 (NIV)

A good morning ritual is reciting Psalms 91, 40, and 131 for Protection, Faith, and Hope, respectively. I strongly recommend doing these as prayers for the entire world, and let God take care of the rest.

I also find that The Lord's Prayer and Psalm 131 both calm me down in times of distress, even when they need to be recited over and over again. Strongly recommend giving it a try.

God bless!

The biggest reason for backsliding is not attending church.
Join one and make it a priority to attend each Sunday.

I said this to you. Doubt is the work of the adversary. If you continue doubting what Jesus Christ of Nazareth has done for you then you have committed blasphemy, denying Him. So stop doubting and walk in His Holy Spirit daily. He will never leave you. It is you who leaves Him by fear and doubt.
Be blessed.

This really scares me and I feel hopeless, if having doubt is tantamount to renouncing your faith and openly leaving Christ, then a lot of Christians are going to hell. Because I have had times when I doubt if I still have the Holy Spirit, you're saying I blasphemed Him and left Him because of this doubt, when that was not my intention at all. Might as well kill myself right now if that is the case. Thankfully I think your interpretation is incorrect and unbiblical. God is much more merciful and understanding than you think.

Like where in the Bible does it say that you leave the Holy Spirit by doubting you have Him? Even if you don't want to leave Him, or for Him to leave you. There is no scripture to back this up that I am aware of. It's just something you or someone else made up.

I know you're trying to be helpful. But this is literally the worst kind of advice you can give to someone suffering from OCD. Also no reference to scripture to confirm your statement like Job405 already mentioned.
