it said the google chrome will not be supporting my computer soon.

Anybody know what this means?

Thank you.

Here is a link to Chrome's announcement blog and the way it reads they are dropping support for all Vista machines 32bit as well as 64bit.

Microsoft has dropped support for Vista as well so you should go to a newer operating system.
Slimjet is a very good browser and I have used it on two Windows 10 machines after advice from paul and others.

http://chrome.blogspot.com/2015/11/updates-to-chrome-platform-support.html

Brinny; why don't you come out of the dark ages and get yourself a new Windows 10 PC or Laptop.?:D I have a new HP LT with it; as of December; which cost less then $300 and all the bad news about Win10 is mostly people who are against MS anyway or also there are so many people upgrading old machines with out of date drivers and the fact that there are millions of Win10 machines out there; so there are bound to be quite a few with problems.
Then when you get your shiny new machine; Install Skimjet; and you should be good to go for a long time. Win10 comes with it's own built in anti-virus, Windows Defender; which was top rated by Cnet and others just a few months ago; and with Windows automatic up-dates for security it's the way to go; for someone like me that wants the computer to; just work. Oh; and Win10 has a lot of new features most work well; after a little learning curve; I'm old so it took me awhile; but it wan't that bad.

LOL! i gotta think about that....

I redid my post; I misspoke; from what I said about Slimjet not helping; it might help with the announcements from Chrome but it wont make Vista any more secure as MS has stopped support and upgrading the security of Vista.

Brinny, how much memory do you have in your machine? Is this a 64-bit computer?

Linux is free, I would recommend trying it out at some point. Many versions to choose from, Linux Mint Cinnamon is a popular one. I have been using Ubuntu-MATE on my personal laptop, and it works. Mine is an old Pentium M with 2GB of memory.

Don't forget to backup your files and stuff, to some external USB hard-drives or something.

Sorry, I am a big fan of Linux. Haven't yet tried Windows 10.

Chrome is dropping most or all 32 bit versions. You probably have 32bit Vista, and it might be as simple as that. If you like Chrome, I would suggest you try Slimjet, which is related but better. And since it is built on Chromium, it will retain 32 bit support.

Hi Paul;
have you had any experience with Slimjet not being able to complete the D/L on the latest version=17.0.7.0?

It says; after going thru the normal D/L; slimjet failed to extract setup files" I have

tried several ways and different D/L sites.

It got a "slimjet.exe not found" before and suggested on the support to uninstall SJ; which I did; and still will not complete the installation.

Any help you could give would be appreciated; as I'm back to using EI; which is slowing down my productivity on CF. Thanks.:)

Hi mnorian,
No. I've been on linux now for almost 3 years, and my last install, sometime last week, didn't have any problems. But that's a different download altogether than what you get.

On the SJ download page, a bit down there's a link to older versions. I would just reinstall one of them and uncheck auto update until they correct the current problem.

Or you could try Vivaldi, which is what I now use as my main browser.

I've been using SJ for over 2 yrs; really like it; but last fall on an upgrade to a new version; my internet had a glitch and the version failed to load; but after it came back on; I redid the D/L and it came thru; except there was an alert saying SJ failed to load some file; but it worked fine untill this last one saying it couldn't find the setup.exe. I have done all the suggested fixes from the SJ forum; scaned my PC with an online site (said there were no problems) so idk.

I went and D/L the latest Chrome version; which installed with no hitch; at least it looks like SJ and my bookmarks plugged right in from my CD-ROM back-up; but it's still not SJ.

Is Vivaldi a Chromium derivative? How does it compare to SJ; and why did you go it? Thanks for you help.

It sounds like you're updating SJ from the internal utility. I would do it manually. First, uninstall SJ. Download the prog manually at the site. You can probably use the latest version, since this is a local problem. Since you're on windows, use the 32 bit version.

Vivaldi is also based on Chromium, but is a bit more removed than SJ. There is a lot of similarity, but V. has its own feature set, and a lot more is coming. I switched because I got tired of little support at the SJ forum, whereas the V. forum is hopping. At the time I saw SJ as the best browser, but that V. was coming on fast and would soon eclipse it. And IMO it has. You'll need an add-on ad blocker though.

I wasn't very clear about it; but I have done all those things; after it wouldn't load from the up-grade alert. I think it is something in the SJ.exe on my PC that got corrupted; and the new d/l file from Flashpeak isn't correcting it; yes not enough support for SlimJet!

The ad blocker is part of what I liked when I first went from Chrome to SJ; but being a supporter there would be no ads on CF; other sites would be a different story. I might give Vivaldi; a try; thanks for the info.
