First off, hi, I'm Adam, I'm 21. :) I'm posting this here because I have no idea where else to go, haha.

I would not consider myself religious whatsoever, but I do believe in a God (I believe the appropriate term is agnostic?). Generally I have a distaste for organized religion due largely to the ways certain people evangelize. I was raised to believe in a Christian God and all, but never really went to church. I tried going to the youth groups of two local churches in high school, but that didn't seem to go over too well. It seemed like each church was competing against each other to see who could have the larger group. That alone put a bad taste in my mouth.

I honestly don't know where I'm going with this. I suppose the reason I posted this was because I all of a sudden have an urge to believe in what I was raised to believe. I was watching a video on YouTube of Rev. Gary Davis singing "Oh Glory, How Happy I Am" and this strange feeling seemed to come over me.

Now as I've said, my history with religion has been strange, I even refused to believe in anything at all for a couple of years.

I guess I just don't know what to do with this feeling, and don't know where to begin.

I have WONDERFUL news for you! All the above can go by the wayside and you SHALL be FREE!!!

1 John
Chapter 2

26
I write you these things about those who would deceive you.
27
As for you, the anointing that you received from him remains in you, so that you do not need anyone to teach you. But his anointing teaches you about everything and is true and not false; just as it taught you, remain in him.

You won't hear this preached in any church as they don't want to lose any of their special spot lambs. ( Lambs for slaughter )

This is what MUST BE DONE!

GIVING IT ALL TO GOD

GOD demands that you give HIM your WHOLE heart, mind, strength, and soul. That means you go in prayer and tell GOD that you will do this and from that moment on seek GOD in all your decisions. Then pick up GOD'S ROAD MAP to the KINGDOM of ALMIGHTY GOD ( BIBLE ) and start reading the NEW TESTIMENT till the next time you read it you will already know what IT'S going to say. For then it's locked in your heart to draw from for the rest of your life. You will NEVER be sorry you did.

After this is complete GOD will know. For HE searches the heart. HE will then send HIS HOLY SPIRIT ( BORN AGAIN- SAVED ). For it is then that you shall receive the MISSION GOD has for just you and supply all your needs, even what you have not the ability to have.

Do yourself a BIG FAVOR and Start right now!!!

You might be interested to find that God has been on record for showing a distaste for some of it too. Search "brood of vipers" and you will find it's not criminals.

You have had hunches and reactions to what you believed wasn't right. Just because it has a Christian label does not mean God expects you to condone what they do. There's a little corruption in everything people do.

It takes people saying things, or making different choices, to change what is wrong in society.

There are also youth groups that focus on one personality type, and insist that everyone join in. Some Christian teens do not like large groups, or peppiness, and operate much better in quiet situations. Some youth groups focus on sports, or music, or whatever the leader's strengths are. They simply can't do everything for everyone, but church members speak as though a youth group should.

God knows who you are. He is still there, even without the commotion of worship and fellowship. He seems to be communicating with you directly, knowing that you're not benefiting from organized group religion.

You probably know enough about Bible stories that you will recognize some of these patriarchs:

David spent years running from Saul in the hills, writing poems of spiritual and personal expression. These psalms, and ones written later, were used for corporate worship from the time of his kingdom through to today. He did not write them during youth group.

Jonah heard from God to go to Ninevah, but didn't want to face violent opposition. No church leader sent him to go, or followed through to support his mission. God followed through.

Saul/Paul was hunting down Christians with his own religious zeal, when Jesus (post-resurrection) spoke to him directly and said "why are you persecuting me?"

The people who did momentous things for God were not necessarily part of the crowd. It's sometimes the crowd that keeps us from pushing out of the mold and fighting for what is right.

Jer 12:10 "Many shepherds have ruined My vineyard, They have trampled down My field; They have made My pleasant field A desolate wilderness.
Isa 56:11And the dogs are greedy, they are not satisfied. And they are shepherds who have no understanding; They have all turned to their own way, Each one to his unjust gain, to the last one. I'm not saying that churches are not beneficial, but that it's okay to listen to your hunches. One church can do wonderful things for a hundred people, then horrible things for one. It happens in small conversations and how people treat each other.

Much work in the church today is done after volunteers have finished eight hour work days, driven through traffic, and had a rushed dinner with half their family. They want to help, but don't always have the stamina and patience to put into it what they wish they could.

Well said, Heron. Well said indeed.

Some shepherds of old indeed think they can put God in a little box, and set bounds for Him. That's why the little ones are being driven away....

Hi Adam.

I noticed no-one has suggested reading the bible which I would encourage you to do. You say you were raised to believe in Christianity so I'm not sure how much you know about the bible, but a good place to start is at the Gospels. I find the book of Mark is very easy to understand and will give you a good idea of who God is, and how we are saved through His son Jesus.

The Message translation of the bible is also really good as it's written in todays language but stays true to the original meaning of the text. I have a spare copy of The Message and can post it to you if you like. :)

I thought of this later, and your advice is very good. I was also thinking the Gospels, and from the Old Testament, the Book of Proverbs. :)

I suggest reading the Bible, from cover to cover, to get reacquainted with the Lord. The New Testament can be a good jumping point if you want to start with the life of Jesus. If you have any questions, this forum is a great place to post them. :)

The strange feeling you have is God trying to tell you to come to know Him. Ya I know some churches are a little twisted, but try finding a church you like. That doesn't have to be your top priority though, but maybe try reading your bible if you have one. If you don't have a bible you should definiately get one. Also, the first step is prayer. If you have no communication with God, then that's just it, you have no communication with God. Praying opens up the door for God to come into your life. Invite God into your life, because that "strange feeling" is God knocking on the door of your heart. I don't mean to sound corny but that's what it says in the bible and it's the Truth.

When you seek teaching from ANY church keep this very important TRUTH in mind.

CHURCH IS FULL OF NOTHING BUT SINNERS INCLUDING THE PRIEST OR PREACHER.

GOD made HIS way possible even if you were all alone 900 miles in the desert.

The tried and PROVEN way is to GIVE IT ALL TO GOD!

GOD demands that you give HIM your WHOLE heart, mind, strength, and soul. That means you go in prayer and tell GOD that you will do this and from that moment on seek GOD in all your decisions. God is all about love. Religion is here temporarily to keep us from being pollutted by the world and corrupted. So God is a Being who is love. He loves you more than you can imagine. He wants you to love Him back. But in order to do that, you need to find out more about Him. The Bible talks about Him. Read the Bible for the glimpses of God's heart. Just remember, He is a real Being, who wants love from you. He is not a religion. He can hear you when you talk. Start talking to Him. The Bible says that God is near us and if we search for Him, we will find Him. We look for God through our heart. We listen to what our heart tells us. Read the New Testament first (better for beginners I think), and listen to what your heart tells you. Talk to God, ask Him questions. He answers through his Word sometimes, He could lead you to some verses that could answer your questions...
He really really loves you! And this feeling - could be His way of reaching out to you and to draw you to Himself. He has so much joy to offer you. But you can only find it in HIM personally (not in the church). In Him and in His Word.

I would love to help any way I can, feel free to pm me.
