Anime Misconceptions: please read
Due to recent opposition to Christians viewing anime, we have decided to clear up some anime misconceptions here. If you still had questions and were genuine in seeking serious discussion and answers regarding this topic, you are very welcomed to start a discussion thread in the forum.
1. Anime Audience:
Audience target ranges from little kids to adults, which explains the following..
2. Violence:
In different genres and for different audience, the level of violence varies. It is similar to the series on TV and movies on screen. Some animes contain extreme violence in the likes of ‘Star Ship Troopers’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’, and ‘BraveHeart’ while some contain mild violence. Are Christians not supposed to watch the movies mentioned above? We leave that question for you to ponder.
3. Pornography (Hentai):
Same as the shows floating around in the media, there is also porno floating in the anime circle. One just has to choose other genres to watch. The base line is? that viewers are to choose the animes wisely.
4. Why do Christians watch anime?
Because of –
 Plot
 Character development
 Theme
 Animation
 Music
 Entertainment

Basically, anime is sometimes like a substitute to the shows on TV. Due to the wide audience range, anime contains both good and bad concepts. For anyone who is an anime newbie and is curious about it, we suggest the following animes to begin with.
For more matured audience:
- Rurouni Kenshin (the atonement of a guilty Samurai)
- Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal, a R. Kenshin movie (watch out for the symbolism)
- Naruto
For less matured audience:
- RoboTech
- Hikaru No Go (ever heard of the chess board like game called “Go”?)
Audience of any age:
A Miyazaki film – “Castle in the sky” also entitled “Laputa”.
Touching animes:
Scrapped Princess
Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal
Naruto
Genres specific:
Comedy – “Slayers” – contains magic. Depends on how one views it – likens to reading fantasy fiction.
Political, emotional – “Gundam Seed” or any older gundam series – Future, mecha.
War – “Last Exile”, “Grave of the Fireflies”
Car racing – “Cyber Formula”, "Initial D"
Hope this clear things up a bit.
