  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How you allow such devilish threads to be in the forums of Christianity? God made us such a long time, to look the way we are right now. Anime and manga with other cartoons that doesn't look real, are pictures of devil. It's so disrispective to draw o picture of yourself looking such unrealistic. It's like shouting right at the God's face that He made you look such bad. For God's sake show some respect to Him and only make realistic pictures of yourself. Just to show your gratitude. That you like yourself the way you are. Nothing more, nothing less

Anime Misconceptions: please read
Due to recent opposition to Christians viewing anime, we have decided to clear up some anime misconceptions here. If you still had questions and were genuine in seeking serious discussion and answers regarding this topic, you are very welcomed to start a discussion thread in the forum.

1. Anime Audience:
Audience target ranges from little kids to adults, which explains the following..

2. Violence:
In different genres and for different audience, the level of violence varies. It is similar to the series on TV and movies on screen. Some animes contain extreme violence in the likes of ‘Star Ship Troopers’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’, and ‘BraveHeart’ while some contain mild violence. Are Christians not supposed to watch the movies mentioned above? We leave that question for you to ponder.

3. Pornography (Hentai):
Same as the shows floating around in the media, there is also porno floating in the anime circle. One just has to choose other genres to watch. The base line is? that viewers are to choose the animes wisely.

4. Why do Christians watch anime?
Because of –
 Plot
 Character development
 Theme
 Animation
 Music
 Entertainment

Please check the following threads for more details:
Why Anime?

The most Christian(ish) anime you have seen

*note that the anime forum is opened to non-christians as well.

Basically, anime is sometimes like a substitute to the shows on TV. Due to the wide audience range, anime contains both good and bad concepts. For anyone who is an anime newbie and is curious about it, we suggest the following animes to begin with.

For more matured audience:
- Rurouni Kenshin (the atonement of a guilty Samurai)
- Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal, a R. Kenshin movie (watch out for the symbolism)
- Naruto

For less matured audience:
- RoboTech
- Hikaru No Go (ever heard of the chess board like game called “Go”?)

Audience of any age:
A Miyazaki film – “Castle in the sky” also entitled “Laputa”.

Touching animes:
Scrapped Princess
Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal
Naruto

Genres specific:
Comedy – “Slayers” – contains magic. Depends on how one views it – likens to reading fantasy fiction.
Political, emotional – “Gundam Seed” or any older gundam series – Future, mecha.
War – “Last Exile”, “Grave of the Fireflies”
Car racing – “Cyber Formula”, "Initial D"

Hope this clear things up a bit.

Can I take this to mean that any form of artwork that does not portray true and accurate representation of the human form is heretical to you? So all Medieval christian art (which was even worse than anime in style and anatomically correct humans) was evil? It certainly wasn't celebrating human form.
However does this also mean that art that celebrates the human form in an anatomically correct way (Nude statues, paintings and photography included) are morally correct?

If so you are quite progressive...:p

Of course you are also calling some of the most influential and currently popular painters and artists heretical. Van Gogh, Salvador Dali and many others were very opposed to painting things realistically.

This. Also avoiding the OP's seemingly assumed premise that interest in Anime or Manga has anything at all to do with one's own self-image. I honestly can't follow how that even entered into it at all.

The ironic part, of course, is that much of modern 'anime style' (a nebulous term anyway since there is no singular style of it) was inspired by early American cartoons like those from Disney, and then just progressively got more exaggerated in ways Western animation didn't, and got more conservatively animated in areas Western stuff got way too stylized in. Then the two started to cross-pollinate sometime in the 90s...sure, you could hold Teen Titans or Avatar up as examples of the influence of anime on Western animation, but moreso than those, take a good, hard look at SWAT Kats and tell me that wasn't Hanna Barbera losing their minds (and SWAT Kats was from 1993...I loved that show as a kid). It's also not too surprising when one considers that most Western animation from the last 20-25 years has had a huge amount of outsourcing to Korean and even some Japanese animation studios, even if the animation fluidity is still typical of Western productions rather than Japanese ones.

If anything, Western animators are near totally responsible for furry fandom, which is a far worse offense in my mind than anything Japanese animation has been responsible for. At least in anime the # of anthropomorphized animals in the way they commonly appear in the West is in the severe minority. So unless there's an assertion to be made that Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny are harbingers of evil, I don't know what to say.

I give this troll thread a 5/10.

For one, the spelling could use some improvement.
Also the thread just doesn't make sense. It seems to attack people who draw manga style pics of themself and it somehow equates realistic art with Godliness. Guess that means Picasso was teh ebil! Unless you're trying to say we're ugly. Tro lo lo lo lo lo lo
Good effort but needs improvement.

On a serious note, Qyot you have a very good point about furries being created by Disney. Anime rarely indulges in a lot of furriness. They do love their cat girls though.

What's wrong with admiring the beauty of which one can create using their own god-given talent? Art was created so that we may express ourselves and I don't think God would have a problem with this. Nowhere in the commandments does it say that we cannot do artwork, it only says that we must not worship idols...which has nothing to do with anime!

No, you think?

On the other hand, there are some pretty extremist christians out there.

And ther all like, all anime is tentacle porn and stuff. and harem comedies and all thet bs.

I agree with you there are quite a few extremist out there with misinformed views of anime and initaily I just wrote the OP off as another one. However the fact that the OP hasn't posted in over a week and the controversial nature of the thread makes me think it was a troll using a throw away account.
