• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Do not love the world or the things in it.
1 John 2:15

Nobody cares about anyone. Unless they’ve been born again. People are selfish.

The Lord is the wonderful counsellor. You’re not depressed, you’re honest :)

Does counselling without medicine help people?

Even something simple like talk therapy helps people.

The thing is you’ll never know what works and lifts you out of those negative emotions, not until you find it.

If you get the bulk of your social interaction from family, that could be causing a lot of the frustration. Family members just aren’t equipped to help 9 times out of 10.

So I’d say look into talk therapy.

If I’m remembering your username right, you had some disappointment over not having a romantic relationship awhile back, so I think you could find motivation in succeeding on that front.

If my memory is off it’s cool to ignore that advice, otherwise really consider putting yourself out there more and trying to shake up your life a little.

God bless mate. I hope some of the advice here works for you.

My parent says she doesn’t believe in depression and that it is demons and because no Holy Spirit. I don’t like the idea of taking pills for a mental problem - that sounds very scary and something that could have bad side effects. Does counselling without medicine help people?

As someone who has recently recovered from lifelong depression (over 25 years), it is absolutely possible to recover without medication. You just have to learn to stand firm with these "professionals" who will do and say anything to try and get you on them. You don't need them. I tried meds for over a year, even after being strongly against them and tried every way to avoid them, and even after being on them they never worked. Therapy/counselling is where it's at. You need to learn how to reprogram/rewire your brain and thinking and therapy will help you with this. You also have to keep in mind that therapy is where you go to get the tools your need for your tool box and the instruction manual. A lot of the work has to be done by yourself. You will need to learn how to start doing the work when you're away from therapy too. Recovery and healing is possible, please take it from someone who never believed I ever could achieve such a thing. You are so worthy of feeling better and you have to be the one to advocate for yourself, even when it feels like you have no support (my mother didn't believe I was depressed either, even though I was going to therapy for 6 years lol).

You’ve a very good memory. Thanks for trying to help me.

Sometimes you make more of an impression than you think, my brother in humanity. Plus I used to be a friendly bartender, like in the movies, expert in people over here. :tearsofjoy:
