Half of all households in America could call themselves a potential target since that's how many have guns already. But if you don't want to be specifically singled out, don't advertise to people that you're a gun owner.
Actually about 40%, And I never would advertise that I was a gun owner if I owned one.

A good reason to own a gun right there. Nobody knows what someone may do.

That is pure paranoia.

Yes, desperate enough that they often kill their victims just to eliminate a witness of their crime. I can show you videos from convenience stores where the clerk was shot by the robbers on their way out of the store.
More paranoia. That happens very rarely.

If a home intruder is in your home and you're fearing for your life, you'll see the need. The idea is to prepare ahead of time rather than wishing you had, but realizing it's too late.

A good stout door is probably better protection than a firearm.

What law could we pass that would stop gun violence?
how about we start enforcing the laws we now have, how about we vote for prosecutors who will send people to prison instead of sending them back out on the streets.

I am fine with this , as long as I and my fellow like minded people , the 80+ million people who voted for Biden to have guns so we decide which government is “ fascist” and which government is not "fascist" . I just don’t want you to decide which government is fascist and which government isn’t.

"Whether it's from a criminal or a totalitarian government, we need to be able to overthrow the government if need be."

To that I say amen. I don't see that day coming yet when the Constitution was written I am sure there are so many things they never saw coming. 2021... I never thought America could change this fast.. its our right..

Stable, free countries? I guess that depends on one's defination of freedom.
Do you consider Japan, South Korea, Tawain and Singapore to be free? Because those countries all have less then one civilian gun per 100 people. The Czech Republic, which is famous for it's gun culture, has 12.5 per 100 persons. The US has 120 per 100 persons.

And we are armed because that's what our founders wanted.
Arguable. The founders wanted the country to rely on the militia to protect the country instead of a standing army. That's why the federal government was prevented from restricting the right to bear arms. But most of the original 13 states didn't have a right to bear arms in their own state constitutions at the founding.

RIght, we should enforce the laws we have and there should be big penalties for being a straw buyer. That's how guns get in the hands of criminals. That and theft.

I wouldn't decide that a government is fascist until they start suspending our constitutional rights.

What made you think I am ok with you deciding what is “constitutional rights” and what is not?

Also...you have a lawyer?
Yeah, he's my brother-in-law so he didn't charge me.

That sounds out of context.

You realize that he put down a rebellion, right? By put down...I mean he marched on US citizens and shot them until they were done "rebelling".
I guess I was just trying to illustrate that armed citizens make it difficult for a government to take your rights.

I'm not convinced anyone can spot a fascist.
Until our rights get suspended or eliminated that's right, we won't know. I don't think it's likely but if there is chaos out there, I want to be able to take care of my patch.

The constitution is already written, why would you think I'm trying to decide which rights are valid? They all are.

Of course but Australia is off the rails, and becoming a tyrannical government.
The you should have asked about that rather than about "restricting freedom", which everyone here including you agrees to in principle.

Ok .. let me rephrase this way .. what gave you an idea that I am ok with you deciding which government is violating constitutional rights and which government is not. I don’t want anyone to overthrew any government with guns, if you can’t solve the problem at ballot box , then you don’t belong in this democracy. "2nd amendment well regulated militia" worked in 17th century, they don’t belong in 21st century.

Nobody is proposing to take rights away. What if they eliminate the ballot box? Would it then be appropriate to rebel?

The thing is the guns are already out there 300 million of them. enough for every man woman and child in the US. I would rather law-abiding citizens have the ability to access firearms because criminals are going to have them already. I want to be able to defend my family should things get crazy outside (like a riot for example).

Plus I think the threat of all these guns should keep any politician from trying to become a dictator.

Even by your own statement she is now incarcerated which tells me she faced consequences for that action. Most of the time unless a gun death is either a suicide or in some cases a justified homicide ( in self defense and/or defense of others charges WILL be brought In some cases quite a few cases actually charges are brought for example if someone is killed ( a suspect in the commission of a felony and there is one or more other perps involved they can actually face first degree murder charges for that other suspect's death ( even if they had not intention of killing or even harming anyone. It is not as if homicides are not punished. Now, there ARE times when a gun death is ruled to be a COMPLETE accident, but there are fairly few of those cases. Most "accidents" are either the result of negligence by the gun owner. Moreover, the requirements for safety vary by state.

A crime problem, yet there have been times where there were MORE violent crime. The difference is that today news travels faster, but in reality most people never engage in gun violence. There are 300 million guns if legal gun owners in the USA were the problem we would know it.

So you have valuables. How is a gun different?
Funny you should mention Japan sense they have very few guns, but one of the highest suicide rates. Considering that 2/3 of gun deaths are actually suicide that alone says something.
