• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello everyone, I am pretty new to this site. I have been drinking daily for the past two years. I am at the point were I crave alcohol and I feel like I need a drink to get through the day. I am going to college and I drink during break at school cause I feel like I need it to get through my class. I just decided to quit because I feel like I am a slave to alcohol. Good luck to all of you that are trying to quit and wish me luck. :)

Excellent for you!!!!!

I hope it is ok but I am giving you a link to a place that helped me a bit when the times got real hard, also meetings may help too.
Do not let your head tell you just how good a drink would taste ect. try to remember and repeat it over and over why you quite in the first place. Keep us updated and I am praying for you.

Here are the links... they have scheduled meetings and people are on 24/7 in the chat area... Sometimes they are a bit cliquey and goof around a bit to much... but its a cool site for hanging with people who are sober too.

I started drinking and smoking pot again. I prayed that God would help me and I told him to do whatever he had to do to help me quit cause I said that I couldn't do it on my own. So a few days after that my mom found my stash and she is straightening me out :)

A relapse is not the end of the world and it can be used as a learning experience if you sincerely want to get well. Good for you for trying and recognizing it for what it is. "With God all things are possible". Good luck to you and stay on the right path.....

Yea i h8 that with alcohol, it is hard stuff to quite because when you feel like [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth], you know that alcohol will make ur pain go away and u can relax and think about outer stuff ... But then u r hooked again ... But the important thing is that u don't give up ...

I used to get drunk every night. Often I woke up with my head in the toilet, praying that God would take this away from me. I would usually remain determined to quit at noon, with my alcoholic fog just starting to clear. By 3:00, I would start to be feel better, and still believing I could quit. As I left work, I began to wonder if I had something at home, just in case I couldnt sleep, but put the thought out of my mind. Before I arrived at home, I stopped by the liquor store, but was not going to drink it. I just needed to have it available if things got bad. By 9:00 I decided, I could have one drink, but no more. Ok, maybe 2 drinks, but no more.
But, I didnt stop. Then next morning, I woke up with another headache, and wondered why God wasnt helping me stop.

My point is that prayer and willpower was not effective for me. It wasnt until I began to work the 12 steps of recovery, did I recover. Prayer is critical, but I learned that I had to take some simple steps myself. The neat thing about working the steps is that putting our lives in order, by not drinking, is not the real purpose of the steps, but when you do work the steps, this is exactly what does happen. If you want some advice on how to start working the steps, feel free to PM me.

I used to believe that drinking actually made me relax and be a funner person, I didnt find out till after I quit that I can be an even cooler person. Now when I see others drink I really see how dumb it is, they just talk about what gets them drunk and what drinks they like. Here are a list of the negatives

1. now your broke for buy the stuff
2. Your dizzy and cant walk straight
3. your thirsty
4 You put on a bundly of fat
5. You forget everything
6. You dont wanna do anything
7. your poisoning yourself
8. you get sick often
9. you cant think straight
10. No one of true integrity wants to be near you
11. you cant feel the holy spirit
12. It blows up all your problems and actually makes them hurt worse
13. you do things to other people you wouldnt normally do
14. the list can keep going

now heres the positives
1. Its a quick fix that makes you feel like it solves everything, but life hurts worse when you sober up

Basically ditch it and dont look back
God be with you
