I always feel so sad when I see old people

I'm aware it's not realistically possible to live with old parents permanently.

Aware?!

Why not become or be becoming or seek from Yahweh HOW families can remain or become "permanently" , for life, everyone's life, together in God's Plan, God Willing.

An old person that has lived a great life (like Captain America end of Avengers End Game) no need to feel sorry for them - they have had a beautiful life - they just have to get their soul right before departing.

I am and have been blessed by many elderly people throughout my life. I am thankful so much for them. It’s funny, I was thinking about how thankful I am for older folks in my life before I saw this thread.
I’m only really sad if they are sad about something. Same as when someone younger is sad.

It's better to have been young in the 60's. They may be old now, but look at what we missed.

You will be old some day too. How will you feel if someone pities you? an old person who serves God is still very useful, you don't need to pity him/her, God's got their backs. For the sick folks, they need medical care. If they live near you, you can make enquiries on how they are faring, you can volunteer to help out at their homes. Try doing something to help them and you'll feel a lot better about everything

It means you're developing empathy.

In many cases they're alone and their kids have no more time for them.

I've heard a couple of times how some old people envy those who still have their kids seeing their old parents more than once a week or still live with them.

Apparently, their highly successful children no longer have time for them. It's so ironic. Jesus technically lived with His parents to the very end.

I don't think this is empathy, but rather pity...and less useful unless it leads to action to improve the plight of the people whom are being pitied.
