There’s two main types of guys when it comes to muscle. Guys that can’t lift much, but can run until the treadmill dies without breaking a sweat. Then there’s the guy’s that put on muscle just from walking past the gym. Those are extremes, and most of us fall somewhere in the middle, but based on the picture of you with the guitar in the member’s photo area, I’d wager you’re one of the guys that can bulk up easier than run a marathon.
You might want to use that to help your weight-loss. A pound of muscle burns 50 calories a day maintaining itself. If you put on 5 pounds of muscle, that’s 250 a day, or the equivalent of a 20oz Mountain Dew. Then, if you cut out the soda, you’re up to 500 cal burned a day. Add a couple miles on the treadmill (walking, jogging, running, whatever) and you could be at a 700 calorie deficit each day. Of course, it’ll take time to add 5 lbs of muscle, but you’ll burn calories while lifting, and muscle looks better so you might as well use your strengths.
Then, simple math, you have to burn roughly 3,000 calories to lose a pound, so you could be dropping a pound a week eventually. It’s math, it’s possible.
And drink water. If your urine isn’t crystal clear, you’re not drinking enough. You should be drinking at least an ounce for every 2 lbs of body weight. I’m 182 right now, so I’m trying to drink about 100 oz a day.
