  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hypnotherapy isn't a magic cure all. In it's basic form it's a way to implant a suggestion. That's it, if your not susceptible to the suggestion in your waking mind, it will have very little effect on your subconscience.. That's why it works for some, and not for others.

Now I'm sure there are some who can push past your "Values", but the likely hood that a "spiritualist" or reputable christian consular is trained well enough to do this is very unlikely, even though you are supposed to believe that they can push past your values. The fact of the matter is the bible is silent on Hypnotherapy, this doesn't fall under magic, sorcery or demon worship. In all reality it's a little more than a parlor trick in most of it's practitioners hands. But maybe it'll be what is need to get over the hump in your life.

I know if you or anyone else are to the point of doing something like this, you may feel you've tried everything else.. Sometimes when Trying with the wrong motives with or even without God will have very little positive effects. (results you may be looking for) If this (hypnotherapy) doesn't work, try the God thing one more time, but this time "Fill you heart for the want, and desire to know God. And He will give you what your heart really wants.."
Either way, Ask God to help settle your heart, so that you may find peace what ever your lot in life.

Does hypnotherapy (to stop smoking, lose weight, etc.) go against the Christian faith? Does it make a difference if it's done by a reputable Christian counselor?

Imo I would cautious about it based upon its origins.

From just a quick Google search and from the sites advocating the practice, it speaks of its origins emanating from ancient Greek, Babylonian temples, Egyptian temples etc. A temple priest would meditate or chant and then plant suggestions into a sleeping recipient who would then conclude that the suggestions were from the gods (source: origins of hypnosis, various hypnosis sites).

Such a practice comes under divination i.e. it's origins had a formal or ritual and often social character, usually in a religious context.

As Drich said, prayerfully consider it and ask the Lord about it.

As one who studies in the healing and deliverance ministry, I would avoid hypnotherapy completely. If you let yourself to be put under, then you have given another person control of your mind, and an opening for demons to come in and take advantage. Have seen others burnt by such practices through "mind control" and "confusion", and isn't of our Lord Jesus Christ. NO, keep away from it.

Be blessed in Jesus' Name.

I agree with Elijah2. Handing over control of your mind and body during a session of hypnosis puts you into a pretty vulnerable position. And, as drich0150 stated, hypnotherapy is not a magic cure. If it was, everyone would be skinny non-smokers!

Pray about it. As a Christian, you don't ever want to put yourself into a position that could possibly weaken your faith.

The fact that you can't hand your mind over to anyone else, is the reason we are not all skinny non-smokers... If your not susceptible to influence by others in your fully alert mind, then there is very very little anyone suggest to you in a semi- conscience state that will take root. what you see in movies, magic shows and on TV where people cluck like a chicken or are brain washed into killing someone after a 10 or 15 min session is just entertainment. That is Unless you want to cluck like a chicken, or want to kill that person, it will not happen without having your "will" broken first.. And if someone sets out to do this, then chances are you won't be a willing participant anyway.

Hmmn I would say as long as the Hypnotherepist is Christian it should be okay.

Some of the Pagan ones have some really weird beliefs and may even try and convince you that the emotional problems that your having now may be the result of a past life experience.

Be carefull test everything.

God Bless.

Since hypnosis has it's roots in pagan religions then it must still be a pagan practice regardless of who performs it. If the roots are (un)holy, then so are the branches. Remember that it's the roots that support the branches. And, a bad tree can't produce good fruit.

Mmmmm, interesting, and where did you get that specific information from. Have you ever been hypnotised? Have you ever counselled a person who has been hypnotised? Have you every tried to deliver demons from a person who has been hypnotised?

Many have warned the poster with sincerity and knowledge and understanding of the circumstances of such practices, which is of the powers of darkness, and you come along and try to destroy any good warning and advice.

Be very careful of your advice, you may do more damage than good.

Be aware, beware, and don't be unaware of the powers of darkness.

Be blessed in Jesus' Name.

Have you had experience in the healing and deliverance ministry? If so, then there is no such things as a Christian Hypnotherapist! If there is then I would keep well away from such a person, and would NEVER let them lay hands on me.

Be blessed in Jesus' Name.

Answer to your first Question, Yes it didn't work.

2 Yes, it didn't work for her either, Tried to get her to reconsider using God as a viable means to accomplish her Goals instead of "voodoo magic" She thought it was her last hope, when it fail she hit bottom. after which, she finally put her heart into using God as a real resource, although she still struggles, she is accomplishing her goals. This wouldn't be possible if she still had another alternative to meeting her goals in her heart. So my experience has shown that if you let someone exhaust there physical efforts and allow them to be lost, then after some soul searching like the prodigal son they will return on there own. This experience is why I wrote what I did in my original post.

3 If anyone was hypnotized that brought out a demon, I'm sure they went into the session with it, or they were seeking one.. You give too much power to what you donot truly understand. In order for hypnotism to work on the scale you think it works on, you have to belive all the stories, you have to except all accounts, you have to ignore anyone who says other wise. You have to bite hook line and sinker, for it to have the control in your life the way you think it does.. But if you wish to be free from the showman ship of this form of "mind control" then don't believe in it. Have a strong core of scriptural values, Except, love and know Jesus, develop a solid relationship with The Spirit.

Just short of having your mind broken by torturous means, you retain ultimate control of what happens in there. It's kinda like the "boogie man" who lives under your bed or in your closet. As a child if you believe this monster is in your room with you then your mind will make it real. every shadow, every creek, every crack in the house a result of the boogie man's actions. When is it time to put childish things like this away? The time to be responsible for our actions is now, stop blaming other things for our short comings, our "Demons." If a soul had been afflicted by a demon, then deep with in that soul they have extended a personal invitation to it. Around of therapy, or a stage performance won't be the source of demonic activity. Or do you think the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells in us, is rendered impotent by the use of Hypnosis?

Romans 8:15For you did not get the spirit slave again to fear, but the spirit of sonship was given to you, by which we say, Abba, Father. 16The Spirit is witness with our spirit that we are children of God: 17And if we are children, we have a right to a part in the heritage; a part in the things of God, together with Christ; so that if we have a part in his pain, we will in the same way have a part in his glory.

What demon on his own could strip the "Son" of his title? If Paul speaks the truth Then we are Adopted sons or Children of God. Who can strip us of this "Glory?"

It's sad when a trouble, tormented, harassed Christian needs help, and that help is given to them by the ministry team of the healing and deliverance ministry, who understands.

Be blessed in Jesus' Name.
