  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hypnosis is used to help people sort out unresolved personal problems. Professionals including doctors and psychologists use hypnosis. I saw people getting hypnotised on TV when I was young, and thought it was just acting. Research indicates it is real. People claim to be helped by their experiences, others claim to have ongoing problems from such therapy.

The experiences of a person hypnotised *may be* (edit) similar to those of the eastern mystics, and some forms of yoga and meditation.

I'm not too sure where I stand on hypnotism. I can agree with stray bullet, but that's also not the only thing that it does. I'm sure it can help if the circumstances are right, and if it is performed by a certain individual with enough knowledge and good intentions.

All I know is that my uncle was hypnotised when he was around 12, because my grandparents were going on a long ride, and they wanted him to be calm and less energetic on the trip. He's never been the same since. He is always irritable and suffers from heavy mood swings now.

That pretty much describes a lot of older males to be honest.

I can agree with stray bullet

Er, I was just saying that's how some people felt, not really how I felt.

I feel the same way. Do you know if this can this happen involuntarily during hypnosis, or do we have a degree of control over our actions and thoughts?

I don't really know alot about hypnosis.  But I do believe that if someone puts you under hypnosis that they can put thoughts into your head that you would react to later.  But as I said, I really cannot offer an intelligent response.  I just know that there are many things in this world that we cannot control and I'm not willing to give up control of my mind to another human being.

God bless and have a blessed day.

I don't have the scriptures here, but will get them. Hypnosis is dangerous. Just like any mind altering drug or yoga meditation, etc. We are not to have passive minds.

Meditating on the word is active. Meditating on your inner lots blossum is passive.

i was hypnotized at a party once..when i was 13. we had talked on a ouija board and the "spirit" or whatever told us to hypnotize someone. i was the involuntary volunteer. it was pretty weird, honestly..lots of strange thoughts, and i still have recurring dreams. i don't know if anything spiritual was there or if the experience was just strange. i haven't ever had it done since, although i've heard it helps people with memory loss and trauma.

G'day Feral,

Thanks for your post. It does indicate there can be a connection between the occult (evil spirits) and hypnosis.

Have you ever considered seeking discussing your experiences with a Christian counsellor. If your experiences are spiritual, a good counsellor could provide help.

My two cents here.

Well I do meditate. Always did. It is the gateway to your subconscious mind. Hypnosis opens your subconscious mind to others. You fill most of your subconscious mind not the hypnotist.  Most hypnotists can only trigger (like in a TV show) what is already there in your subconscious. If you are not an inherent killer, no one can command you to do so. And so on.

Weird thoughts observed in the subconscious only show an inner conflict of some sort; especially the young. It is supposed to be that way. If a teanager has no conflict growing up this would be scary.

Hmmm, so when someone is hypnotized and they are told to bark like a dog they must be a dog??

Feral,

Just like hypnosis, Oujia boards are pretty dangerous things to play with. Where did you think that spirit came from anyway? Those strange dreams are a bad fruit.

As this is a Christian board, you may want to seek out some help. Cry out to God about. Repent for playing with that board and see what happens.

I was heavy into the occult before becoming a Christian. Now, I minister to people who were willingly or unwillingly into witchcraft, voodoo, etc. I've seen some spooky stuff. And, I know what happens to people when they open themselves up to spirit guides from the Oujia Board.

My French is still pretty bad even after being married to a Parisian. From what I make out, mai vous etre un peu exestentialist!
