  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

While we're talking about sleep disorders, etc...

I've always been curious about how dreams/dreaming works. From both a scientific/non-scientific standpoint. I'm wondering what enables people to control their dreams...I myself can control them so well I can make myself fall asleep and 'live' my daydreams or whatever I want. Sort of like self hypnosis.

Most sites I've found on controlling dreams have been of the more spiritual nature.

I've also read that people who do deep meditation (including self hypnosis) are more likely to experience hypnagogia.

I'm so happy to found a (pretty) sound explaination for one thing...now I'm looking for more ^^

a science news article on the topic and a Dr.'s web site on a ten year study on the subject.... If I may admit to something stupid that I did about ten years ago- I attached a electrical current ( Direct Current .2 Amps) to my forehead ( frontal lobe, part of brain responsible for dreaming) to induce dreaming, I woke up with a burnt forehead. HAHAHAHA

This all sounds pretty similar to what I've experienced. Auditory and visual hallucinations as well as extreme vertigo (I feel like a helium balloon drifting across the room). Along with this I lose all sensation of time. What feels like a few ours of regular experience turns out to be about ten minutes. Usually happens with half an hour of going to sleep, especially when I didn't get a whole lot of sleep the night before.

I have to admit, wanting to scream out loud at the strange person looking down at you and being frozen with sleep paralysis is a pain in the butt. Best bet for me is a beer before I go to bed. Gets you right from REM to deep sleep. Glass of wine should work as well, and great for the heart.

Also, I've noticed cats and dogs kick in their sleep and rapid eye movement as well. Do you think they might experience some of the same things we do?
