Charlie, Francis and Ivan....and more? are going to affect the election this fall.A lot of people have had their lives destroyed and their property
has been plundered and immersed in rain and mud. Relatives around
the country reach out to help...and so does the curent Government.

This will make them look towards security in this election...disaster relief.
I believe that Bush/Cheney have secured the election in november 2004
since their assistance to the south over the next month calls for real action
and not promise. Voters will see how truthful and strong this party is and will
cast their votes for Bush/Cheney.

My theory is based upon fact. Here is a summary of some 13 factors..

Hurricanes force people look toward the government for help not vote them out. A lot of the areas described above as keys are affected by the
government in office and the relationship with voters in the near future.

They need relief and fast. Their assistance will strengthen their faith in the
Government in office. Jeb Bush already has their ear. The South will need
to stay firm and support the government to overcome the disaster.

It is not what you say that wins an election it is what you do and
today there is a lot to do in the South......

Pray for these people and respect our leadership...:priest:

:priest: Take the time and read the article and ponder what needs to take

place in the south and the rest of our country over the next 6 months

to get these people on their feet and then think about how ones

thoughts and opinions are altered by what is done not said.....

I think this weather month is going to decide the election not the

ads and campaigning......

If people are pre-occupied with rebuilding and getting their lives back together, they may not vote at all. But I think if there is any political effect, it will be local--a referendum on how local officials help their constituents through the disruption. In 1992, the senior George Bush's administration took some heat for a perceived lack of response to Hurricane Andrew. Yet he did carry Florida and most of the South, and still lost the election. Other factors will be much more important overall.

Actually, I think people have a tendency to EXPECT the government to come through in situations like this. They aren't THANKFUL that the government takes their taxes and then does their job. They expect that to happen.

If they do a poor job (like in NY over 9/11) people get angry.

If they do a good job, they break even.

Now add in this little tidbit that was on news radio here this morning:

The state government made a deal with some big insurance companies (mentioned here, because Allstate corporate is near here.) A whole bunch of people who thought they had no or very tiny deductibles are getting VERY rude awakenings.

My guess is: not happy about that.

The real issue is the cost to the taxpayers for state and federal

owned infrastructure and land or buildings... reconstruction of

drowned roads and bridges... The nation needs to redirect support

to our friends and family in the south.... the individual homeowner is

far less of a burden.. Jobs should increase as there is a lot of work to

do... People need to roll up their sleeves down there and do the hard

physical work that it takes to clean up the mess and rebuild. Professional

trades will also increase.. People will move out of the state and leave a

void.. it probably will be apparent in aabout 6 months...:priest:

All roads lead to rome though and the infrastructure damage is not usually insured... we pay for it..... We need to think like family and help our brothersand sisters in the south recover.

President Bush is visiting today and he has offered initial support as a down payment for the damage that needs to be looked after....

Here comes Ivan.... I wish the Floridians would listen to Governor Bush about
staying away a few more days to let things blow over... property damage is
not the issue it is loss of life and injury....:priest:

I'm just waiting for the inevitable "Bush caused these hurricanes so he can steal the election". Or "Bush is going to use the hurricanes to help steal the election". C'mon, I know some of you folks out there are thinking it, speak up.

My guess is that they will have to bring back the chad voting machines if they don't get the power on. OH NO! NOT AGAIN! :D
