  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There was a time when I could not stand to hug or be touched. these days, thanks to some age and some good [highly affectionate] friends, I am over that and love to hug people. I am the hugging type, both by nature and by nurture -my father is the same way. So, if someone else is comfortable with it, I love to give hugs to anyone that lets me.

Admittedly, I still have some hangups and remissions on the whole "don't touch me!" thing. I still don't want to do more than a quick, friendly, loving hug - linger and i will be very, very uncomfortable. Only a very few people can do more than the typical hug and me not kinda freak out on them over it - my family among them.

After reading some of the responses on a couple of threads I was wondering if I am the oly girl who doesn't like hugging everyone. So please take the poll.

You might be suprised to know that I actually chose "I am female and I only hug close friends and family. "

I thought "I" was the only one! I have a real issue with touch and boundaries. You are not alone my friend <3

Oh my, old thread.

I originally voted "I am female and I only hug close friends and family."
But really things change in 5 years.

I hug just about everyone. Some people really lack human touch. Because they're afraid to cross boundaries or others are not into hugging. I don't go around hugging everyone I cross paths with, but I also don't mind hugging someone that I just met/hardly know.

How much I enjoy the hug entirely depends on the person I'm hugging and how close I am with them. But even then it's also the chemistry. I hug M all of the time, but there's only one hug that was really memorable. We were out in the middle of the bay, swimming and brought up the topic that I was leaving which then resulted in an emotional ocean hug. Hugs in the ocean are the best. Aside from that our hugs are normally just routine.

Some people are great huggers and I could hug them and have hugged them for extended periods of time.

It also depends on how bodies fit. Sometimes it's awkward to hug Mark, him being 6'10" and me being 5'6". I feel like my face is in his stomach.

So many factors go into hugging.
And now I'm rambling.
Stopping.

I voted hugging of close friends and family, but honestly, I flipping love hugs! I'd hug you upon first meeting you, but since most people freak out with that, I just offer a friendly handshake until we get to know each other better. :D

Same here! If we ever do meet, we'll have to hug it out.

Old threads make me a bit sad. In 5 years this board won't have hardly any of the same people and it won't be the same place... just like high school... well, I assume. I never went so my vision of high school is what is portrayed in John Hugh's movies.

Back on topic- I voted for I am female and I don't like hugging anyone.

That isn't quite true though. I love hugs from children and am usually grabbing onto one to steal some snuggles. What I don't like is initiating hugs with other adults. If someone I love wants to hug me, fine. I'll deal with my personal space bubble being invaded but only people I really like can hug me. Other than that, this is my reaction:

One of the things i disagree with , is when our SIngles Leader tells everyone after a meeting 'to hug one another' ; while this might sound like the christian thing to do to promote cohesion, etc... it is NOT comfortable for all to do and should not be foisted on everyone. Im going to talk to the Leader about this. I for one, do not wish to be hugged by people i hardly know or who are greatly obese for instance ; when the Leader has announced doing this at the end of the meeting....some of us immediately sit back down so Others can see we are not approachable for this particular gesture .

Anyone else have this experience in Singles Ministries ?

I didn't vote on any of the options in the poll. I rarely initiate hugs with anyone. If I do it would be with close friends or family. I'm not opposed to others hugging me though. I've even had strangers hug me; it was okay. But if I didn't want someone to hug me I will do what Amber.ly and Kusco do.
One time I was visiting someone's church and one of the pastors randomly came up to me and hugged me. :D I was kinda shocked and I was told that I must have been really hugable or something. :D My best friend is always hugging me. My best friend's husband sometimes teases and says he's going to hug me; and I respond with a threat of pain. Another friend is terrified about hugging me because she thinks I don't like it. Once I spontaneously hugged her though.. she was scared. ^_^ Currently I usually don't hug guys except my dad. I think people sometimes assume I don't like hugging just because I don't initiate them.

I voted for only my SO. I don't hug friends so I couldn't vote for friends and family. Hugging friends just feels funny. I don't like people thinking they can just touch me when ever they want. Hugs kind of give the impression that they can.

***the only exception***
If they are a close friend and I will never see them again, then I would hug them.
