  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How's Vista treating ya

Windows Vista has been treating me okay so far. No problems. I am happy with the purchase. :)
Ditto :)

I just might cut my XP Install to the minimum and keep it just for reliability testing :)

I hate to say this but I'm going to stick with XP for my next computer I purchase. Why? I know XP off by heart and I'd rather wait until Vista can run smoother and run on lower capacity machines.
I agree with that completely. Aside from the part where I may be switching to linux.

I don't think Vista is ever going to run on lower capacity machines than it already runs on. The technology is just going to get better, so in a year or two we'll have systems fast enough that Vista won't really be slowing them down anymore.

Run Smoother or Run with all the bells & whistles ?

Vista's Minimum Specs is something like
• An 800 MHz processor.
• 512 MB of RAM.
• A 20 GB hard drive with 15 GB of free space.

Is anyone using the Express Upgrade Program from their computer manufactuer? If so, do you have Vista yet and did you encounter any issues prior to receiving it?

I believe I read some unfavorable reviews of that feature on the blog I posted earlier.

Traditionally with any Windows "upgrade" you are asking for trouble. From what I've read, Vista is no different if not worse. Clean installs are always recommended by techs like myself who have the scars from trying to "repair" botched upgrades. And end up doing clean installs anyway...

I haven't seen too many problems here yet, although it is kinda scary...

...For those running Vista at work with a KMS server, have any of you been able to get the thing activated OK?

I have always clean installed in the past, plan to this time too when I get Vista. Hard drives are cheap these days, so putting Vista on it's own drive shouldn't set anyone back too much. If your hard drive is large enough, putting it on a new partition can be a good option also... but if you plan to dual boot... beware! See the following:

System Restore points and other recovery features in Windows Vista are affected when you dual-boot with Windows XP
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/dualboot.html

I alread use BING and IFW/IFD from terabyte unlimited, so ought to be in good shape there.

Also, it's possible to clean install Vista from the upgrade media that is sent to you or that you purchased:

Get Vista upgrade, never pay full price

...hope it helps :)

Well I got sick of waiting and went and bought Windows Vista Home Basic. I must say I am very impressed with Vista. It is very stable and I haven't had any attempts of people hacking in, no spyware or viruses either. I just wish one train the firewall to quit asking you for permission. That is so annoying.
