I'm back from my exile. The computer dude said my system was twisted up with virus/malware junk and but had a rather soft crash landing. Hardware good, but had to work over the registry.

Makes me sorta mad-as diligent as I was with 3 different spyware programs, firewall, and constant updated antivirus scans.

Ain't gonna happen again...I have a customized Mac that will be here by the end of the week and then after I'm comfortable with it this system is gonna be introduced to the penguin...

Sure missed everyone--dude had to restore the system to factory so while I saved all my pics and documents I've got an essentially new machine to reset for now.

I'm looking for an inexpensive laptop to take to presentations.

Any recommendations? Even a good used one would be great. My budget is under $500 (I hear you laughing!). :D

I'm no expert...I did see an Acer laptop at Walmart for under $600 (same thing was $750 at Staples) that seemed to have all the right stuff and I thought about it but didn't go that route.

I've lived through the Acer laptop experience, came out surprisingly unscathed, but I've been happily using an iBook for the last few years... PC people bash Mac people, Mac people just sit and look smug when PC people are bashing their PCs...

The macs are pricy-I got the lowest priced mac available, the iBook sure was sweet though...

If you are comfortable adding an operating system yourself, you can get some pretty descent equipment from retrobox.com. I have been using their used desktops for about 5 years now. They buy truckloads of equipment from businesses when they upgrade.

On the same note, new laptops have come down so far in price it is hardly worth buying a used one anymore.

Hmm, I don't mind installing a OS myself. I had to reinstall on my old computer a couple times because of glitches and a virus that couldn't be removed. I will definitely look into that.

My cousin just reminded me that last year after Thanksgiving, Walmart had laptops for $399. I'll look into that, too. We have a couple events coming up where it would be nice to have a laptop to show a PP presentation to people who drop by our display. :)
