I actually do scrutinize all other "holidays"...and I do not esteem them as holy--those are reserved for His Holy Days as defined in the Bible.

Ha ha, what is anybody getting? I observe that man's "holidays" are pretty much commercially based, where we got to (if you want to observe) shell out some ducats.
Okay, be sure to complain this Sunday and again in two weeks.

Wouldn't you say for the whole world?
Why the whole world? The US was neither the first nor the last country to abolish slavery.

Sunday? I don't get it. Yeah, I don't do Sundays...
It’s Father’s Day.

Precisely my point.
Why does it need to apply to the whole world, there are always national and local holidays in countries all over the world. People even celebrate their own birthday, a local/personal event for many.

Like I said, complaints about Juneteenth when the same people are silent on other occasions looks like something the usual folks do.

Black folks have been celebrating Juneteenth for decades and we haven't needed white people/non-blacks permission to do so. It's always been our celebration but now some white people/non-blacks feel threatened. It's ALWAYS some kind of mess with these people but let's be clear. You don't care about Juneteenth and what it's really about. You don't even really care about African Americans. You just want to be in control. You politicize us, objectify us, and then erase us. How do you do that and then talk about Jesus? Had you really known black folks IRL, you would have known about Juneteenth. So when some of you are in real honest heartfelt friendships/relationships with African Americans IRL and your post reflect that, then I'll take your so called "concern" seriously...

The description of the holiday does not suggest any sort of exclusion, it describes what the day stands for, it was the day that freedom of African Americans in the United States was finally recognized (although it took another century for the country to fully recognize this).

May it soon be seen as a holiday with black roots but one to be celebrated by all.

We also know some blacks would be exclusive and not want whites or other races celebrating with them

I don't know about this. I grew up in Texas. Juneteenth is a given (and a recognized holiday). I have never seen it as excluding whites. Now, do white folks go out of their way to join in on the celebration. I haven't really seen that either. Maybe that's the problem. Maybe white folks need to rejoice with those who rejoice.

To be fair, it's been a few years since I left Texas, so maybe it has changed.

"Black" is not necessarily just a color when speaking of people...it's an experience. This is obvious in the fact that there are no white, yellow, red, black, brown, etc... people, with a few exceptions.

I related to pretty much every race, in every way, so. I know what I am and I will tell you this--I am more black than many "black" folks I've run across.

*So you better believe my life matters.

I don’t get how Juneteenth is a racial holiday of any kind. I would have thought emancipation and the abolition of slavery would be something all decent Americans would care to celebrate. It should absolutely be a national holiday as black history is American history.

Funny how so many that have outraged over a couple statues being brought down seem to not have a problem with glossing over this part of our nation’s history.

Glossing over?

What does one do to celebrate Juneteenth? I don't think I'd ever heard of this holiday before a year or two ago....

Should I send a card to the black people l know? Is there a tree to put up? Fireworks and BBQ?

Or do we all just go online and complain about people not celebrating Juneteenth?

What is the protocol?

If racism on all sides exist, then why is there a clear and disproportionate quality of life for discernible groups in America (if we are being honest)?

Easy....because your quality of life isn't directly related to the racism you experience.

See Juicy Smoolyay for an example....

He was faking a racist attack so he could receive the cultural/societal benefits of being a victim of racism.

Prejudice exists on all sides, I agree.

Prejudice towards someone's race is racism.

But only a few "sides" are benefiting from the dehumanization and subjugation of others - that is racism.

Nobody is being dehumanized or subjugated.

Race problems weren't fixed in 70 years because acknowledging that there are groups of citizens that benefit off of the detriment of others is to remove the veil on American Excellence. It is about ignorance, not depth or the "omnipresence" of racism.

Who is benefiting off of being racist towards people?

And, when Americans citizens apologize for Americans citizens being killed by law enforcement, it is just another iteration of very recent history.

Apologize? Who other than the cops arrested should apologize?

Nobody's asked me to bow down to anyone else.

I wholesale, out of my own volition, stand with my black friends and neighbors in their fight for basic human dignity. That's my choice.

Black lives matter.

You're both stunning and brave for taking this stand Crypto.

Sorta. It's about Texas. I didn't know the rest of the country even knew about it.

I'll admit I didn't know about it.

That's great you post about it every year. Just in case someone here still hasn't gotten the word yet, I guess? :)

Lol so that's where I heard about it..

Honestly, I think I forget about it every year because it's not a federal holiday until it comes up in this forum.

What complaints? Was there a complaint somewhere in this thread? The only one I saw was about people "glossing over" Juneteenth....

Also, what do you mean about "silent on other occasions"? Are you talking about Septemberst?

Septemberst is a very secretive holiday for a very elite few.....no one is supposed to be talking about Septemberst.

Nobody's asked me to bow down to anyone else.

I can't be sure...but that poster may have been talking about statements like these...

Former NFL player turned artist pens powerful essay on racism: 'The choice to stay silent is a privilege that Black folks do not have'

He also called out non-allies and non-Black people who are choosing to remain silent and are thus complicit in the face of racism.

I’ve been observing who has stayed silent,” Keyes wrote. “I see you hiding to protect your name and brand from counterparts that might not agree if you say something. I see you putting your own popularity ahead of the lives of innocent people who are being lynched in the streets.”

Like this guy...many people equate staying silent on racial issues as being complicit with racism or racists or whatever they're angry about.

That's a pretty awful thing to accuse someone of and 100% untrue.

Not only that....but he goes on to say...

If this letter inspires you to change, this is what we need,” he says. “We need you to stand by us. We need you to shut your mouths and just listen. We need you to stand by our sides and fight the fight with us at ALL times.”

So....remaining silent makes you a bad person in his eyes....but he also doesn't want your opinion, he wants you to shut your mouth.

It's a sentiment that's being repeated over and over in this little echo chamber that's been created around racial issues....and I can definitely see why some people would think it gives off a very "bow down and kiss the ground I walk on" kind of vibe.

Seriously? You haven't seen that section in the Hallmark store? - "Congratulations!..."

I know, it's a small section near the back of the store. I'm sure Hallmark is a bit embarrassed that they're still trying to milk it after about a century and a half.

It's a sad day when commemorating the end of an American crime against humanity is seen as something wrong. The irony is those that express such views seem broken up over the Confederacy and how history should not be ignored. This reminds me of those "Democrats support slavery, but the Confederacy was amazing and for states' rights!" discussions.
