Don't worry J. My post #3,198. He's referring to my mention of the Holy Spirit in understanding scripture.

True Discernment of scripture does come from the Holy Spirit,
It's Absolute Truth.

Yes I realised that but she didn't.

I would be careful to pick a side.

"Philosophical" Christian. What exactly does that mean anyway?

It means I start with an existential acknowledgment that the world is a difficult place to live in and a difficult one in which to cite any specific presence or activity of God.

But the qualifier "philosophical" can mean different things, depending on which Christian Philosopher you engage.

On a practical scale, it also means two other things, at least from my perspective: 1) I'll tend to be more ecumenical and easy going with others, accepting other human beings as human beings and other Trinitarian Christians as Trinitarian Christians, and 2) I'll do this until other human beings and or other Christians fail to give me the same consideration in return. Why? Because Reality is bigger than any one person or the Bible.

I'm Afraid I'm a Simple man,
Trying not to make assumptions as that too is sin,
What Little I know and Truly Understand isn't of my Doing but of the LORDS Holy Spirit.

Actually God is bigger than both. And you're not doing yourself any favours by not taking the bible very seriously. But this is your faith you have to work out. And I don't mean that to offend either, but no one likes a fence-sitter. Just saying.

No. Only been here a month. Reason why I stumbled into this sub-forum without realising it.

Pipp. You're going to end up getting in over your head very quickly. Maybe go to my "about" page here on CF, look through it from top to bottom and decide how you're going to respond next.

Moreover, don't assume that when I refer to "Reality being bigger than the Bible" that I'm not including God in that Reality. Maybe realize that I take some of my initial reflections and cues from Blaise Pascal, and also from about a hundred other philosophers and theologians ...

I can either be one of your greatest allies, or I can be one of your greatest challengers. It's your choice.

And is that Samson's last act before he died?

But for some reason, some folks think I'm a "fence sitter." Oh, the travesty! Oh, the irony! :ahah:

The difference is the Holy Spirit (being born again) when it comes to guidance and discernment, both scripturally and with things such as the gifts.

I'm fairly early in my walk (1 year) and I have religious trauma in my background, so my journey back to the God of the bible has not been an easy one. I've had dreams and visions in the past 5 years leading up to coming to Christ and so reconciling those things with scripture has been what I've been focusing on.

I have views that many here would deem inaccurate or controversial (theologically speaking), because they seem to like to argue the details to the death, when I just came to this site hoping to seek answers and hopefully people who "get it", to which I've only found a precious few so far.

God works within us to sanctify and conform us to the image of Christ. How he does this for each person in the body, I couldn't tell you.
You are disti gushing between
people who just say they have
divine guidance, and those who
like you really do get such assistance?

If you want to find people who think like
you. This is the wrong place to look.

If you want your ideas challenged, hang around.

We use Samson as an example of a philanderer.

Check out his first recorded words in the Bible:

Judges 14:1 And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.
2 And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.

Yes, Samson was a sinner. And God still used him, didn't He? So, I guess he was "more than" just a philanderer.

Would you rather I use another Biblical figure for connotative reference? How about King David? Or.....oh.....King Solomon?!

But regardless of those points, as a philosopher, my reference to and use of "Samson" has more to do with epistemology than axiology.

Maybe, think of it like ...... I'm knocking over Descartes' Strong Foundationalism with Pascalian ferver ...
