... and what led him to become a non-believer.
If I remember correctly, one poster* said it was because he was getting "too much of a good thing."

* I can't remember who it was.

Yes, you said Christian. But did you believe in the Holy Trinity? Not all Christians on this site do, even though (for those willing to see) it clearly says it in the bible. Jesus is the Son of God and he is God.

The specific details of the nature of this God are irrelevant to the statement about whether I had detected God. As I said earlier...

If I had actually "detected God" I would probably still believe in it.

Not having "detected God" certainly made it a lot easier to stop believing in it because I didn't have to redefine a past experience. (An analogy: If someone thought they had seen a ghost and then later came to not believe ghosts existed, they would have to realize or decide that their prior observation was false. Not having any such prior observation of God left this out as an impediment to losing my belief.)

You completely avoided the question. Did you believe that Jesus is God when you were a Christian?

Again, in my case, I did what was expected of me .. I didn't know what a belief was.
I think I deliberately avoided being asked that question.

Of course. That is a rather odd question. I also didn't detect Jesus then either.
It's not at all odd when you consider your avoidance of the question to begin with.
Can you elaborate further? What denomination did you grow up in as per your statement below?

Indoctrination in childhood, just like most people.
What did your church teach exactly?

That's a very honest answer.
It might sound a bit childish .. well .. because I'm going way back to my childhood and answering your questions as that child(?)
I don't think I could never understand how two people could be the same person(?) .. and because I couldn't get that understanding, I don't think I ever developed the belief that they were(?)
Very interesting!

Are you talking about the Holy Trinity? I grew up in a Christian religion that never taught it so when I came to Christ last year, a pastor explained it to me like this: A man can be a Father, a son and an uncle. It's the same person but the roles are different. Make sense?

It's difficult to understand God with human understanding but when I think of Jesus as the word (and this is my interpretation) God said "let there be light" and there was light. Scripture says everything was made through him and  for him. And one of the psalms describes Jesus being in the Father's "bosom" which makes me think of Jesus as Gods voice. Still part of the Father, but not the Father. All 3 of the Godhead participated in creation.

I did not.

It's a very well known doctrine that can be found online. Here is the WP page about it.

Baltimore Catechism - Wikipedia
It looks like a branch of Catholicism, would that be right? I'm pretty sure the Catholic teaching does not teach Jesus is God, but only the Son of God, from what I've been told.

That aside, often religion that differs from what Jesus actually taught in his ministry on earth is why so many people end up confused, frustrated and eventually fall away from the faith.

* edit: I just looked up the doctrine elsewhere as Wikipedia didn't help me to understand but seems the Trinity is part of the teaching as you said. Just have one more question though.. was it a works based faith for you?

One thing you'll find about Hans is that he is very honest and straightforward; and not shy about answering tough questions put to him.

It plainly says a lot of things that plainly are not
so.

I said clearly, not plainly. The Holy Spirit changes the interpretation of scripture from the face value that a lot of people take it as.

@Adventist Heretic:

You need to correct the attributions (or quotes) on your immediately last post #3124.

You have mixed in your own words and made it look like others have said them.

This is an extremely obnoxious posting technique .. and you need to repair the damage immediately.
Take this advice how you like ..
i am simply going to ignore you, there was no harm and there is no damage. you were able to understand it. this kind victimhood is not helpful.
