HOW DO WE KEEP THE SABBATH ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES?

WHAT DOES GOD'S 4TH COMMANDMENT SAY?

Exodus 20:8-11 [8], Remember the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day) [9], Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: [10], But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY> [11], For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT.

WHAT DAY IS GOD'S SABBATH?

v10 The SEVENTH DAY of the week. (Saturday)

WHEN DOES THE SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK START?

Genesis 1:4-5 [4], And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. [5], And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

A day in God's time is the night (darkness) and the light make up one day. The DAY in God's WORD starts at SUNSET and ends the following SUNSET. So God's 4th Commandment Sabbath would start Friday at SUNSET and end Saturday at SUNSET.

ALL UNNECESSARY WORK TO BE DONE BEFORE FRIDAY SUNSET

Exodus 16:22-23 [22], And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. [23], And he said to them, This is that which the LORD has said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath to the LORD: bake that which you will bake to day, and seethe that you will seethe; and that which remains over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

Mark 15:42, And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath

The preparation day is the 6th day of the week. This includes preparing to stop all business and secular work as well as any domestic work; cooking, cleaning; shopping, buying and selling that can be done on any other day of the week.

IT IS LAWFUL TO DO GOOD ON THE SABBATH?

Matthew 12:5-12 [5], Or have you not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? [6], But I say to you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. [7], But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless. [8], For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day [9], And when he was departed from there, he went into their synagogue: [10], And, behold, there was a man who had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. [11], And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? [12], How much then is a man better than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

Mark 2:27, And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath

It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.

WHAT IS LAWFUL ON GOD'S SABBATH?

1. Remembering the creator and his creation (Exodus 20:8-11)
2. Rest from all unnecessary work (Exodus 20:10-11)
3. Doing good (Matthew 12:12)
4. Prayer (Acts of the Apostles 16:13; Matthew 21:13)
5. Worship the creator (Isaiah 58:13-14; Exodus 34:14; 1Kings 9:6; Revelation 14:6-12)

Song, praise, bible study, helping others, preaching the gospel, resting, prayer, seeking God, remembering the creator and his creation. Walking in nature, going to church with like minded believers. (too many scriptures)

WHAT IS NOT LAWFUL ON GOD'S SABBATH?

WORK; all business and secular work as well as any domestic work; cooking, cleaning; shopping, buying and selling that can be done on any other day of the week and anything to do with work (Exodus 20:8-11; Exodus 16:22-23; Matthew 21:13). Doing our own pleasure (Isaiah 58:12-14). God's Sabbath is a special day as a holy day of rest to remember that God is the creator of heaven and earth and a celebration of God as our savior and creator.

.............

There is no purpose in following any of God's Laws including the SABBATH if it is not done through faith that works by love because it is only as God writes His Law to love in our hearts that we can take up our beds to follow him. Love is the fulfilling of God's Law in those who believe and follow God's Word (Romans 13:8-10; 1 John 5:3-4)

God bless

You can’t quote just part of it, so lets go through this in context:

Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

This is clearly not referring to the weekly Sabbath. The Sabbath is not an ordinance its a commandment of God and it certainly not against us. God tells us the weekly Sabbath is “holy” and “blessed” so it certainly is not contrary to us. We are told the commandments of God are not grievous 1 John 5:3 This must be talking about the other sabbath(s) that is an ordinance in the law of Moses, not one of God’s eternal commandments. There are no contradictions in scripture, just misunderstandings.

15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

This is in context to food and drink and the seventh day Sabbath is not about food or drink, but the sabbath(s) annual feasts day are, that was created after sin, not before like the Sabbath day.

17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

The seventh day Sabbath is not a shadow of anything, it points back to Creation “Remember” the Sabbath day Exodus 20:8-11 to Genesis 2:1-3.

The title of this tread is how to keep the Sabbath holy, so I would like to get back on topic. If you have something to contribute to the OP feel free to post otherwise I ask that you stay on topic. Thanks
You’ve demonstrated that context doesn’t matter. So I’ll just post it again, and you can believe it or not. Your choice.

Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day—
— Colossians 2:16

“Do not judge so that you will not be judged.
— Matthew 7:1

Which does not say the 4th commandment is deleted. This is in reference to the disciples having a discussion regarding the annual holy days i.e. sabbath(s) feast days, that is in context of food and drink offerings not a commandment of God and the Holy day of the Lord thy God.

Second request, lets get back on topic please!

You are the one who wanted me to back up my position. Which I did. You, however, have yet to show that worship is a requirement on the Sabbath. You are big on the commandments. Where’s that one?

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

This is a commandment from God, personally written by God. Holy and worship go together a lot more than worship and a day God deemed a working day. Exodus 20:9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work

You have free will to disagree, which doesn't change these important scriptures.

I have not seen your position backed up yet though scripture, because God's 4th commandment is eternal Exodus 31:16 which is why God's saints will worship God for eternity on God's chosen holy Sabbath day. Isaiah 66:23

The topic of this thread is how to keep the Sabbath holy, not if the Sabbath is holy. Now please either contribute to how we keep the Sabbath holy or maybe bow out of this thread.

And I’m question what you say is required to keep it holy. Your opinion is that holy and worship go together. However, in the commandment itself God says what to do to keep it holy, and He doesn’t say to worship.

You seem so opposed to it now worshipping God on His holy Sabbath day. God gives us free will, but if you do not want to now, what makes you think you will want to on God's New Earth and New Heaven, because it's the day ALL flesh (those saved) will worship our Lord and Savior each and every holy Sabbath day.

Isaiah 66:23 And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.

The fact that you’ve resorted to an ad hominem tells me that you really don’t have an appropriate response.

All I’ve asked for is the scripture to show that worship on the Sabbath is required.

Where is the requirement to worship? Or the prohibition to worship on other days?

According to the very Words of Jesus, no one worships God by following man-made teachings and traditions of men that leads us away from God and his Word to break the commandments of God (see Matthew 15:2-9). We worship God by believing and following what Gods' Word says. God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth *John 4:23-24.

According to the scriptures, all of God's people all through time including Jesus and the Apostles worshiped God on the Sabbath according to the scriptures and according to the scriptures we will continue to do so in the new earth *Isaiah 66:22-23; see also Ezekiel 46:1-3; Luke 4:16; Acts of the Apostles 16:13; Matthew 28:1; Mark 2:27-28; Acts of the Apostles 17:2. According to the scriptures we are free to worship God every day of the week as the early disciples did in Acts of the Apostles 2:47-48. That does not however make everyday of the week a holy day of rest where no work is to be done now does it *Exodus 20:8?

God's 4th commandment is one of Gods 10 commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) that give us the knowledge of good (moral right doing) and evil (moral wrong doing); sin (moral wrong doing) and righteousness (moral right doing) *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4; Psalms 119:172 and if we knowingly break any one of them according to James we stand guilty before God of sin according to James 2:8-11. According to the scriptures if God gives us a knowledge of the truth of His Word and we harden our heart to believing what God's Word says there remains no more sacrifice for sin but a fearful looking forward to of the judgement to come which will devour the adversaries *Hebrews 10:26-31.

This is why it is written in the scriptures; "Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters." - Revelation 14:7. No one worships God according to the scriptures by following man-made teachings and traditions that break the commandments of God. Our God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). God is calling us out from following man-made teachings and traditions that lead us away from His Word to break the commandments of God back to the pure Word of God *Revelation 18:1-5. God's sheep hear His voice (the Word) and follow him. Those who do not hear and follow are not His sheep according to John 10:26-27.

Take Care.

So with all of that, you have nothing to say that we are required to worship on the Sabbath. It would be nice for you all to just come out and say it.

Well that depends if you believe the scriptures posted in the very post you are quoting from. You did not read them did you. What is it in the post you are quoting from that you do not believe and why (scripture please)?

Well that is not true. Your post is not responsive to the post you are quoting from and addresses nothing in post # 70 linked that disagrees with you. All you have done here is to hand waive all the scriptures provided in the linked post that disagrees with your teachings. Anyhow you are free to believe as you wish. That would be between you and God according to the scriptures in John 12:47-48 as we all answer only to God come judgement day for the words of God we accept or reject.

Take care.

I’m responding to your post. Again. There is NOTHING in that post that says WORSHIP is REQUIRED on the Sabbath. I all-capped the important words since you and the OP both keep ignoring that part.

First off, stop saying that I don’t believe the scriptures. That’s a rule violation. Second, the scriptures you’ve posted do NOT state or imply that worship is required on the Sabbath. So do you have anything that does say that scripture is required on the Sabbath? I think we both know that you don’t, but I’ll entertain any passages that you can provide that says otherwise.

And for the record, I’ve not asked if there are examples of anyone worshipping on the Sabbath. That’s not in question. I’m asking if it’s a requirement. A requirement would need a command somewhere. If it exists, please produce it.

Perhaps you have a misunderstanding. I never said you do not believe the scriptures. I posted that it depends if you believe the scriptures or not that were shared in an earlier post in regards to worship and the Sabbath which I provided ( see post # 270 linked and your response and mine directly after). It was never my intention for you to think I am saying you do not believe the scriptures as my view was that you did not read the scriptures provided in the linked post. My apologies if you interpreted my post as saying this as that was not what I was meaning.

Not examples of just anyone worshiping on the Sabbath, example by JESUS. Luke 4:16-21 who we are told to follow in His footsteps.
