• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

 • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How queer

"Queer"?

 • LGBT - I find it offensive/consider it an insult

 • LGBT - I don't find it offensive, but I don't self-identify as queer

 • LGBT - I self-identify as queer

 • Straight - I think it is offensive

 • Straight - I don't think it is offensive

Just wondering what people's feelings on here were about the use of the word "queer".

Personally, I self-identify as queer, but on the other hand, some in the LGBT scene seem to find it offensive no matter what the context.

Poll coming in a sec.
I use the word all the time, but not referring to gays. It actually was a real word before homosexuals started using it.

Guys this could be considered a "homosexual thread " that requires some outside substantiation on every post.

It could also seem right on the edge of this part of rule 4

4.1 You will not post, attach, use or send any posts, PMs, links, images or files:
a. that are obscene, vulgar, or sexually explicit (including any descriptions of sexual organs or activities in any detail). This is a PG-rated website.
b. that are hateful, racist, or sexist (discussions regarding certain biblical interpretations on the roles of men and women will not be considered "sexist" under this rule).

I am going to leave it up as a poll because I think that how we address people reflects how we treat them, so I see it as a legitimate topic.

This is only a heads up that if the thread drifts or if people post hateful posts I will remove it from the forum.

SO PLEASE keep to the topic and do not stray, be civil and considerate.

Thanks

I am going to vote now :)

I think if someone is odd then they are queer.

I agree, since that is what the definition of the word is. "Odd or unconventional, as in behavior; eccentric." I call my husband queer when he is acting foolish.

Well, in that case, let me append this substantiation to my previous post regarding my need to keep "queer" in my vocabulary... ;)

I've never been told by anyone that it was offensive to them, so I never thought of it as offensive. I don't use the word though, simply because it is unpleasing to me ears. It's one of those words that I just don't like the sound of. Much like pork.

Eh, I'm weird.

You know, I just noticed that you removed personal experience from the acceptable citations in regards to homosexuality. How inutterably sad.

Well, in my personal experience, I'm gay, but I don't have an internet link to prove it. I suppose it's time for this thread to get shut down.

queer ADJECTIVE:Inflected forms: queer·er, queer·est
1. Deviating from the expected or normal; strange: a queer situation. 2. Odd or unconventional, as in behavior; eccentric. See synonyms at strange. 3. Of a questionable nature or character; suspicious. 4. Slang Fake; counterfeit. 5. Feeling slightly ill; queasy.

Seems pretty much like it fits the lifestyle. Good word if you ask me.
Some one across the world could say the same about your lifestyle. ^_^
