My computer should be about three years old. It's falling apart, even the part in the computer for the printer something broke on it and it can't be fixed. So no printer until I buy another computer. What I get for buying it from a regular popular store, I guess. But it was all I could offord at the time. I'll just keep using it til it no longer works, but hey...when the cd rom quit, I put a new one in all by myself...tee..hee..I'm so proud. :)

I build my own pc's to get the best parts available.
One year i upgrade the cpu and board, the next the video card hard drive or ram.

But my last build because of the new video card expansion pci-e and my old socket a board and cpu. I had to upgrade all three. To get the socket 939 cpu mobo combo.

So i pay less than buying a boxed computer and twice the preformance, and no hassle from dealing with recovery disks.

Ditto, parts of my computer are quite old, but other parts are quite new.

I use trickle down economy in our house's computers.

I upgrade my video card, the old one goes down to the next system & so on.
Same for Memory, Hard Drives, CD/DVD Drives, Motherboards & CPUs Ect.

So for the price of 1 upgrade (I.E. Replacing My MB/CPU), I can get 2-3 Upgraded computers out of it.

The oldest computer I currently own was purchased in 2001. It still has surprising kick given it's age (saw me through Doom III last year).

I bought 3 new computers this year: a mac mini; a Compaq laptop and an iBook.

Bought the Mini because it was finally a Mac that was cheap enough for me to take a chance on. Got the Compaq laptop for my birthday which my wife promptly took over to play The Sims 2 on, which lead me to run my wife on a guilt trip to let me buy the iBook because I kind of prefer the Apple experience (though I am typing this on my Compaq).

I suspect given the iGluttony of the last 6 months that if I were to try to buy another computer before...say...2010... I will probably get into trouble.

Mine is 1.5 Months old. The one before that was 5 years old, cwdlmdd, if you want to build one yourself, its not too difficult, although its really not any cheaper, its just good if you want a top of the line system, which is a waste in inself if you dont play games.

Or edit video, but that is more forgiving than gaming.

Currently, my computer is 4 years old, my parents' is 2½, and my sisters' (which used to be my parents', and then got shifted to my room before going to them when I got mine) is pushing 10. We did have a Compaq with Win98 on it that we got fed up with, which was the reason my parents got a new one in 2003. We'd had that since 2000.

My grandfather gave me his that summer (2003), but he'd had it since 2001, when it was new. The only two things I've put into this thing are 2 different DVD drives (the first was the DVD drive I took out of the Compaq; I replaced that with a DVD burner about a month ago, but I didn't get rid of the first - it works perfectly fine except for not reading burned DVDs, I just didn't have any room in the case), and a new power supply, which was back in August or early September.

I actually waited 7 years before buying my notebook computer this Spring. I've bought a 286 (used), 486 (used), Compaq (new), HP (new) and Acer (newest). I don't see myself buying a new computer every couple of years. I just can't afford to do it. But apart from that PCs take up lots of room.

Its more something I wanted to do just for the fun of it. I think it would help a person not only learn about his system but help them understand somewhat how everything works together. Its just something I have always wanted to do.

I am not that big on games but I am more interested in graphics and web design and photo editing then anything else.

I have a few cases just laying around but I have not given it much thought to what type of MB to put is one. Then I guess I would just work from there to see what I could come up with for a finished machine.

Its just something to think about and look forward to doing one day. And to think I use to build doll house for people. What a change!

I have a laptop that is about 5 years old...366MHz processor...6.2GB hard drive...128MB memory...not a lot to it, but it does what it needs to and then some.

I added a CD Burner, 120GB hard drive, memory card reader ( I currently have 5000 pictures on my external hard drive) and some flash drives, MP3 players...

So, basically, just because it is an old computer does not mean it is worthless or even junk, it suits me just fine! :)
