Hi everyone. I'll try to keep this brief to avoid the "wall of text" syndrome. Still, this is from the heart...
My late dad was almost the stereotypical "puritan work ethic" sort. He almost didn't believe in God's grace, actually. The whole "saved by grace but kept by works" kind of thing. He justified it with pithy statements like "You have to do your part."
And for most of his life, he was miserable: full of grudges and convinced that "God does good things to OTHER people. But not to me."
So I guess my question is: how much is "my part?" People like Joyce Meyer love to drop those allegedly wise sayings that sound SO MUCH like my dad. "You do what you can do and God will do what you can't."
Lovely sentiment. But not very practical. I'm a hard worker, but I stress myself into sickness because I never feel like I've "done my part." Nothing ever seems like it's enough. Any ideas?
