Thank you all for your posts. I have to admit, I do get worked up a lot about America. Plus, I would like to thank those from outside of the States who have replied. This almost proves my point. Why, in a country like America, with the right to bear arms, are there more murders than any other country in the world? Does this have any connection with spirituality and religion? Or something else? I am dying to understand.
all the crimes in america cannot be attributable solely on the "right to bear arms". guns don't kill people, people kill people. There are so many social problems in america it is difficult to know where to start. Most of the problems are more prevelant in the urban areas.
1. broken families (50% divorce rate in america) children being raised by single working parent, hence very little guidance and supervision for children who turn to their peers for guidance gangs, drugs, alcohol, etc, which leads to crimes in order to make money to live that glamorized lifestyle that rappers and hollywood types live.
2. discriminatory educational system, do you know that predominately black areas in america gets much less per student funding for schools than do white area, in the same city.
3. glamorization of violence in tv, video games, and movies. children are very impressionable, if they are exposed to such things then violence becomes "normal" for them.
4. weak family structure, in the economic structure of america both parents must work to send their children to college or to maintain a "middle class" lifestyle, this leaves the children unsupervised and free to do what they want.
5. drugs trade.
some kids on long island used a stolen credit card, bought a frozen turkey from a supermarket, and while joy riding in their car, they threw the frozen turkey into the windshield of another car almost killing the middle aged women driving the car.,
guns aren't the only way to kill people.
the right to bear arms was included in the consititution so the people will have a means to protect themselves from crime, also to protect themselves against a government run amok.
the adults of today were the children of yesterday, analyze the social structure of children today, you will know what we are to expect in the future, i don't think things are getting better just worse. while america consentrates on invading and killing other people throughout the world it is slowly falling apart at home.
