  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I could support the stance but a party that had only one issue could not function if it
gained governmental power. How does such a party propose a budget? Deal with interstate commerce? the environment? tax policy? immigration? What about basic rights? If I do not know the stand of a party on free speech or gun control or the role of the federal government in local issues such as welfare or education how can I confidently support it? Not that I would be likely to support any political party as I find political parties to be counter productive to the idea of good government since they place party loyalty above the general welfare.

Such a one issue party might actually help by bringing in people with diverse views on other issues, and they are not now beholden to either of the two major parties. They might have more incentive to compromise and negotiate.

You could also run primaries within the party. Each person could pledge to uphold the main party issue on war, and then give their own take on other issues. That would allow representatives to still reflect the majority of their constituents on other issues.
