How many points of TULIP must you believe to be considered Reformed?

Read J.I. Packer's Intro to "The Reformed Pastor" Baxter hedged alright, he fell way over the hedge. But that is still one of the best books I have ever read.

i went 5+ as well. Im a calvinist...but i also follow alot of the baptist doctrin...basically i beleive the bible cover to cover...no more is needed.

All Evangelical Christians believe the Bible from cover to cover (supposedly), but we disagree on what it says or implies at several points.

A Hyper Calvinist like a Gospel Standard Baptist would affirm all five points yet not be truley reformed The five points alone are not enough. You must also affirm the Solas of Luther to be truely reformed.

Keeping in mind that the "5 points" or TULIP, was only intended to show 5 specific disagreements with the Arminians.....not as a whole theology, ON THEIR OWN

I didn't take the poll. My personal feeling is that you MUST believe in TU IP.

Limited Atonement isn't necessary in my mind (although I subscribe to Limited Atonement).

I believe the TULIP but I by no means call myself a Calvinist.

I was at first looking for an option that allowed one to be reformed without believing any of the five points. My reason for this is that I am not a very dogmatic person, and I think one can be of the reformed faith and influenced by the teachings of Calvin and the Westminster standards, etc., and not understand soteriology in terms of TULIP. I think there are better ways of stating the biblical doctrines of salvation. For example, I prefer the term "Particular Redemption" to "Limited Atonement." I guess I would be a "Calvinist with footnotes," or a "twelve-point Calvinist." I ended up voting for the need to accept all five points and then some, because I do not think TULIP alone should be the criteria for admission to "reformedness."

I was surfing and found this thread very interesting. In the interest of fairness I must tell you that I am a Roman Catholic, but I am very familiar with Protestant Reformed theology having once been a Southern Baptist minister. Many Southern Baptists identify themselves as “four point Calvinists,” but I do not understand how this is possible (even though I once held the position myself). Even though I pretty much reject the T.U.L.I.P. theology, logically it does have cohesion if you accept the premise of Calvinism’s understanding of the sovereignty of God. Therefore it seems to me that the statements in T.U.L.I.P. logically build on and therefore necessitate the acceptance of the proceeding statement. If we reject limited atonement as many so-called “four pointers” do, I do not see how the system can logically hold together. I would be interested in your comments.

Perhaps in that they would not exist if not for the Reformation, but to be truly "Reformed" is to follow Reformed theology.

the reformation gave rise to at least 3 rather different groups:
magisterial=>lutheran, reformed, and for want of a better label=>radical reformation=catabapists/anabapists
