My granddaughter came to spend a few weeks with me, and I decided to teach her to sew. After I had gone through a lengthy explanation of how to thread the machine, she stepped back, put her hands on her hips, and said in disbelief, "You mean you can do all that, but you can't operate my Game Boy?"

Perhaps you know why women over sixty don't have babies. They would put them down somewhere and forget where they left them

I didn't know if my granddaughter has learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask her what color it was. She would tell me and always she was correct. But it was fun for me, so I continued. At last she headed for the door, saying sagely, "Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself."

Have mercy, whimsyjean! What a gorgeous group of kids with beautiful names! What a most special blessing for you to live with those that make you happy!

I am 'OMA' to six and the oldest grandaughter, who is 20 yo, had a daughter Oct 20 so that is my first great grandchild! She is Madison Rose and such a good little one.
I also have:
Kyle, Caleb, Emily, Ashley, and Renae.

The youngest is 11 and all but one live nearby so I get to see them often and we frequently have 'gatherings' for little or no reason at all!

They are all a blessing and have devoted parents, thankfully! My grandaughter that just had the baby is not a christian but she surprised me today by going with my daughter and I to church! Praise His name!!
All of my 5 children live within 10 miles from me, except for one daughter who lives and works in Chicago!

WHAT IS A GRANDPARENT?

(taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds)

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of her own. They like other people's.

A grandfather is a man grandmother.

Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the store and have lots of quarters for us.

When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the color of the flowers and also why we shouldn't step on "cracks."

They don't say, "Hurry up."

Usually grandmothers are fat, but not too fat to tie your shoes.

They wear glasses and funny underwear.

They can take their teeth and gums out.

Grandparents don't have to be smart.

They have to answer questions like, "why isn't God married?" and "How come dogs chase cats?"

When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television, because they are the only grown ups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time, and kiss us even when we've acted bad.

A 6 YEAR OLD WAS ASKED WHERE HIS GRANDMA LIVED. ''OH,'' HE SAID, ''SHE LIVES AT THE AIRPORT, AND WHEN WE WANT HER WE JUST GO GET HER. THEN WHEN WE'RE DONE HAVING HER VISIT, WE TAKE HER BACK TO THE AIRPORT.''

I love it! I have seen this before, but every new time I see it, I strive to be just what it says I need to be. Thank you for the reminder.

Hi, I've just started posting here....I'm old enough to be a golden eagle...but spiritually speaking...uh...nah.

We have 7 grandchildren. Our first is Mercedes who is already with the Lord.

I only get to see 2 of our little dollies. But they sure are great.

We have 14 children and we still have 8 unmarried (one's with the Lord)....so at some point I expect to see lots of little ppl popping around. ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

What a wonderful testimony you are to God's great grace!

Yes, life can be very painful at times. It is what sends us even closer, under the shadow of His wings! Growing in Christ is life's greatest experience!

I've also experienced the loss of a child and that is surely most severe in a family! Again, it causes us to see that it is in Him we trust as we have no resources in ourself!

God bless you for joining us here, to care and to share, to learn and to grow!

You said it...GOD'S GRACE. He even sent me a grandchild named Grace...just in case I forgot.

Yes, the loss of a child is most severe. Such a tender situation.Even more so when a child has chosen to be lost...or astranged...and we have one of those too....death closes the door and eventually heals the wound....when they just leave without any word, the heart wound remains open...and only God can touch that.

I read your post...congrats on that continual gatherings thing you have going with yours. We get together often also...wish I had a bigger house tho.:prayer:

Blessings to you

I am "Granny" to three beautiful granddaughters, aged 7,4,2. And 4 months ago I was blessed when I married my wonderful husband and became "Granny to two handsome grandsons, aged 5 and 1. I love being a Granny and even though I live at a distance from my granddaughters....I do everything I can to keep a meaningful relationship with them including visiting them as often as I can, emailing and calling them regularly, sending "surprise" packages through regular mail, being a penpal with my oldest granddaughter, etc.

If any of you have any different ideas on how to show love and care for long distance grandchildren I sure would appreciate hearing about them.

I love your heart and your idea of Granny Packages in the mail.
I have one physically distant grandson (like across country) who is soon to have a little sister and I admit I never even considered this...perhaps because I am really bad about mailing things out. I WILL CHANGE THAT. But I do have a larger problem and praying saints might have a word from the Lord to give me a boost...please.

I have 2, might even be 3 by now, grandchildren that I do not know at all because I am prevented from knowing or seeing them. They live in a nearby city...their father, our son, married a young woman who doesn't like us (in all fairness to her I must admit that the atmosphere in our home is often heated...we still have 6 sons living at home...a passionate group we are...and so I can't blame them for not wanting to spend a lot of time around us...but gee) so we have been cast out of the picture. But obviously my son doesn't care enough to deal with it either. :sigh:

When Jonas was first born, I called and asked if we could come visit and was told "no" that they'd bring him over when they were strong enough to be out...so OK...within a couple of weeks they did stop over and I held him for the first and last time. That was 4 years ago. It has only gotten worse since then. There is currently no communication. I don't think a granny package would fit this senerio. But then again, who cares if they don't communicate...maybe I should just start anyway. Your prayers would be grately appreciated.
