Thank you for sharing your testimony - I really was inspired reading this and am considering re-visiting how I study the Bilble since I am coming to realize after being on the forum for awhile that I have been studying the wrong way. I love hearing testimonies like yours. I look forward to seeing more of your posts here too. " Here is the miracle" two weeks later it came to me, I haven't even though of a beer, god had taken it out of my mind god had set me free , by that time the urge was gone. I had no desire to drank anymore. but I still smoking cigaretts, I even questioned god why .I knew smoking was a no=no in this church a SIN, haveing fingers pointed at me , I still stayed in the church for five years not missing one service . tried and tried to quit smoking , with the pastor growing impatient, because we were a black mark on his church, he got a out of town preacher to come and hold a revial . I was talking to the preacher befor the service started and tolded him I smoked , and ask him if he would remember me in his prayers. when the service started the first thing he said was Iam going to put the lid on it and put it on tight. if you smoke you are not saved! that tore my heart out , I felt like every eye in the church was looking at me . I wanted to hide under the bench ,that killed me ,it ripped my heart out . I thought i was saved,I felt I was but I found out I wasn't. that was the best thing that could have ever happened to me . but I didn't know it then. I left church devastated. crying ,and brokend . I went home and got down in the floor beside my bed , and I cryed, and cryed ,and called upon jesus. from my soul .I dont know how to get saved , but if you can help me please, please, help me . THE day you seek god with all of your heart and soul is the day you will find him! THE next morning I woke up at three thirty am with a strong desire to find out what the bible says and dos'nt say . for three and a haft years I studyed the bible from front to back .compairing scripture to scripture, letting scripture interpet scripture. I found good news in the gosple . IT changed from works plus faith, TO faith plus grace , I went from a futurist, to a preterism . I now know what world came to an end, when it ended and how it ended . I now know what genration and upon what people the end of the world came. PLEASE forgive me for being so long winded. BUT there maY BE OTHERS who have been cast out, hurt badely, and desperate to find help . I haven't gone to church in seven years, because I can't find a church that teaches the bible like it reads . I do believe there is sencere people in every denomation, through my studyes of the bible I have found out with gods spirit liveing in me I can love my enemys , forgive so I will be forgiven! AND one more thang ,I dont believe there will be no pentecostals, no baptist no catholic , no denomations of any kind in heaven. JUST CHRISTIANS LOVE YOU TRUTH SEEKERS
Hi I'mblessed,Imblessed said:Hi frost, thanks for the encouragement. I posted that (it's my old name) way back in May when I first joined CF and found out there was some other way of interpreting Revelation. I had never heard of any other view besides a pre-trib rapture, dispensation type of thinking. I was having real trouble understanding it, and when I came upon this 'preterist' view, I was completely fascinated. Like you, the logic was undeniable!
I guess you could say now after several months of questions and study, I'm at the very least, a partial preterist. I also now hold to convental instead of dispensations; and I'm now a Calvinist, although a pretty laid back calvinist! So, I've done quite a bit of changing over the last 6 months or so!
I haven't totally joined up with the full preterist camp yet.....but I'm getting closer all the time. I think preterist thinking could really make a difference in the churches right now, I really don't like the escapist attitude of pre-trib rapturists...at least the ones who are rabid about it.
Anyway, thanks for the encouragement and hope to see you around more!

It's gratifying to know my struggles may be helping someone else!JesusFreak877 said:Hi I'mblessed,
I just stumbled on this thread and was intrigued by your post here - I find myself in a similar place to where you were when you joined CF - I have been visiting mostly the eschatology threads here since joining and went from being pre-trib to post-trib and now am not sure if I am leaning more towards partial preterism. Before coming here, I thought pre-trib teaching was all there was and then I started reading the bible more in depth and getting a new hunger to really go deeper into what the Word says and I keep studying the threads here and am not sure how to proceed with how I study the Bible now to "undo" all my pre-trib/post-trib programming.
How did you approach your bible study during your time of transition? Any suggestions would be appreciated since I am so confused right now and so steeped in futurist, dispensationalist pre-trib doctrine and am trying to start over with the Bible.
Thanks and God bless.

Let's see...well, one of the first things I did was pray, and really talk to God. I'm one of those real casual prayers and I just said "look, God, I'm tired of trying to read the bible and not getting it. I want to understand what I'm reading. I'm ready to try this from a different angle. Do something!!" Irreverant for some, I'm sure, but it usually works for me! LOL
I had been trying to read the bible from the pre-trib rapture dispensationalism point of view and was getting nowhere. I was so frustrated that I just about gave up reading it all together. Then I found CF, and Preterism. I was intrigued. I started asking questions and all the preterists had really in depth, scriptural answers that made sense. One of the guys, stauron, asked this of me(and I think it did more than anything else to help me out)----he asked me to just ignore Revelation for now, and read through the NT with a first century mindset. Get out of the 21'st century and become one of the christians reading the letters sent to the churches by the apostles. Read it like you've just recieved the letter and you are reading it for the first time. One of the things christians today have to realize is that the NT was not written to us. It's good for us, profitable, inspired yes, but not written to us. It's written to the 1st century christians to inspire and encourage, to help them get through the troubled times, to give them hope for something better.
As I sat and read with this mindset, for the first time, the bible came alive for me. I saw things I had never seen before, verses jumped out at me. It was amazing.
Now, I won't say it's been all hunky dory since. There are still parts that I'm having a really hard time understanding, and things that I'm having a hard time letting go. It's not easy to make a switch from "we're going to get raptured away soon" to "the bible has been fulfilled and we are the product of the new covenant"!! Not easy at all.
One thing I can say though, when I've really asked God to come through for me, He always has. I'm an independent person who tries to get through life without God's help most of the time, but He's always answered prayer when I've really needed it, and I was in a spiritual desert before. The thirst I have for God's word now is amazing. I've never felt such a need to learn.......
Man, that was long. Sorry, I kind of got off on a tangent.....but since I don't know how to say it any different I'll just stop now....hope this helps. Feel free to pm me anytime.

Hi Hidden Manna; Thanks for posting this-it is one of many new concepts for me to look at; I am just at the beginning of learning about the preterist view and abandoning futurism, I am seeing so many things like the Church, the whole NT, prophecy in a new light. Like Imblessed said . . . "it was a lot easier being a futurist!" -- many issues and concepts to deal with, especially our roles as Christians and a light for Jesus in today's world once we abandon the false endtimes ideas. . . but it also makes me more on fire for the Lord at the same time!Hidden Manna said:Here is a post from NJFM that I thought you two should read, Ty wrote it.
I can in some ways understand why there are so many preterist stuck in the interim. We have to also remember that the Church is in fact really in it's infancy. And it was not all that long ago that most preterist believed as futurist that the Church Era is waxing old and they are in fact (apart of the first century Church) and bring in the kingdom etc. So preterism is also in fact in its infancy in its understanding as to were we are in Church history.
It was not all that long ago that most of us, were all mislead futurist. So just as it takes time for a baby to learn how to walk so is it with preterism. It has to take baby steps and fall down alot in order to learn to walk. I believe that is also why God has NOT shown all Christians the truth of preterism. God always starts small. Take for example the 12 disciples. And God always uses something that is in its infancy. Remember the women as covenant having a baby? And remember God called a man named Abram and Abraham became a family and his family became a might nation.
In time and space and Church history we have just started to understand how eschatology worked out and there is much more in depth about God's kingdom still to learn. It is characteristic of God to bear evidence of this. A little over two thousand years is not a very long time in view of scripture. God remembers or keeps his covenant unto a thousand generation (Deut. 7:9 was intended to show the quality of God's faithfulness with respect to any given time or promise.
It is quite obvious the Church is still in its infancy and has to fall sometimes before it can learn to walk. He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth.
He remembers His covenant forever, The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations, The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac, And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant. (Psalm 105:7-10)
We know the thousand generations is not to be understood as literal but eternal so in God's view the Church is in it's infancy. And if the Church is in it's infancy we know so is preterism because it really just got started.

I know that in preterist circles, the stuff about Nero's name adding up to 666 is the most accepted answer, but there are some who are looking into other views. After all, the writing on the Pope's robes add up to 666 too-or something like that. But there have been many names that have 'added' up too 666 over the
any other views on 666 out there?
Jotham said:Good day all, as my second post to the CF forum this thread caught my eye so here is my little story:
Raised in a Catholic home, and becoming disatisfied w/their answers to "life" by the time i was 18, I made the decision to look elsewhere for the answers.
My path I went down on the way to becoming a Christian (then one who holds onto the Preterist View of scripture) took me through Eastern religions, Occult, Witchcraft and other bizzare teachings. Then i met the woman who would later become my wife. She was part of a home church that was charismatic and very "Rapture crazy". Christ was just around the corner and you could read the "End" in the latest headlines.
Well after about 18 years of failed prophecies concerning the "Return" of Jesus, i began to dig and read the Word for myself and not rely so much on any given pastor...that's when I began questioning the idea of Christ and His Kingdom NOT being here as I'd been taught. Upon more self study and digging, I happened across the Preterist viewpoint at several websites. After more study and research I grabbed onto the PretView wholehartedly and the rest is history. Oh yea, my Christian friends think I've lost it, but i've always been a rebel for God. Now i'm even more so!
Cheers,
Thom

He is dead set against preterism, but he is a confused futurist and thinks that some things did already happen.
The funny thing is that this lady called in the other day and used "orthodox" about 350 times in 3 minutes to describe the partial preterist view. She didn't actually define it, but knew that it was ortho and full preterism wasn't...
Like Hidden said, I just imagine it multiplying all over (well except for around washington state or the north west, where I am from for some reason).
