I've never felt a physical presence. Not even the hint of one. Whatever consolation I get starts in the intellect and then flows down into emotions. Not euphoria though. More like sadness. Like you might feel listening to Arvo Part's Cantus.

It isn't like a high. It is there whenever I'm quiet enough to appreciate it. It is like the background of my existence.

If you're familiar with Thunderf00t and other prominent atheists on YouTube, you'll know they have a fascination for astronomy. Their love for the heavens is what it is like. Any night there aren't clouds, they can go out and appreciate the stars. Sometimes to get a really satisfying experience, they might drive out to some isolated spot away from light pollution.

Instead of looking up, I look inside, for that is where God is. I simply be still and let thoughts and events just flow over my awareness like untroubled water. Though it is a sad feeling, it is also beautiful. Beautiful beyond my ability to articulate.
