  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

There's the When unhappy with Dems and Repubs, I abstain from voting option. Do you plan on voting this year?

Oh, it's not because I'm unhappy with them. I've just never had the opportunity. One time I wanted to vote, but because I hadn't registered in advance, I wasn't allowed.

I do plan on voting this year. I'm neither a Republican or a Democrat, but I do like one of the candidates and will be voting for him.

I was pro-Bush when he ran against Kerry. Not because I liked Bush, but because Kerry was a terrible choice. I even got people to vote for Bush. I was pro-Obama last election, and I'm pro-Ron Paul this time around. When I was kid, I liked Clinton, and would've voted for him if I was old enough.

I vote for the best candidate, regardless of party. I think identifying with a party is stupid. Everyone should be independent, because belonging to a party clouds your judgement.

I vote whenever I can and I listen very carefully to candidates and pay attention to what's happening politically. I won't get into my politics here because that's a very private matter but they're part of who I am and I enjoy hearing what others believe, even if i disagree with them.

I will say this: if you don't vote and don't stay informed then you really have no business complaining, lecturing, or judging others for their politics. Whether we like it or not, the political system affects ALL of us, from taxes to regulation to gas prices to foreign affairs. If someone doesn't vote then that's fine with me: I just get tired of people being apathetic or ignorant about issues and then turning around and whining about the state of our country when they haven't done anything to make their voice heard.

I certainly won't be voting. I refuse to vote for the 'lesser of two evils' anymore. I'd still be voting for evil if I did.

What about 3rd party candidates? Do you not like any of them or do you not believe in voting 3rd party?

Oh, it's not because I'm unhappy with them. I've just never had the opportunity. One time I wanted to vote, but because I hadn't registered in advance, I wasn't allowed.

That's too bad and one of the reasons why I'm for being able to register at the polls. Unfortunately, starting this year, that's no longer an option in Wisconsin. If it had not been an option in 2010, my aunt would not have gone with me to vote. (I was so happy she went with, since that was her first time ever voting.)

I am registered as unaffiliated or no party. However, I do understand generally voting with one party only. There are some politicians that will stick to their beliefs no matter what, but many times they end up compromising with their party, especially in Congress.

I vote whenever I can and I listen very carefully to candidates and pay attention to what's happening politically. I won't get into my politics here because that's a very private matter but they're part of who I am and I enjoy hearing what others believe, even if i disagree with them.

This wasn't about Dems vs. Repubs and no one has to share their personal politics or which party they generally vote for. I was just curious if people tended to vote with the same party every time and how they felt about the lesser of two evils thing vs. 3rd party candidates, especially since I'm considering voting 3rd party this year.

So far I've only been able to vote once because of my age :sorry: I'm conservative so more than likely I will always vote that way. But I could see myself in the future voting for the lesser of two evils even if it's a democrat. I'd never vote independant unless they had a super high chance of winning. I would never go without voting though.

Well as a Brit, I get to vote on a good mix in most elections and in conditions that are far less... apocalypse driven party divides.

I've voted labour and lib-dem most recently, and I've actually been pretty happy with the current coalition politics so I'd most likely vote lib-dem or even conservative, It'll be coming down to budget proposals at the end of the day, as social issues don't really exist here (there's just far too much civil discussion.)

I do not believe in giving my moral sanction to someone to rule over my neighbors. So I generally do not vote in general elections. However, I will vote in the capacity of "damage control" for initiatives and referenda, in which case I would vote in whatever way I believe will give the state less power to control my neighbor.

I would never vote for what I perceive to be the "lesser evil" because - well, it's still evil. Why would someone give their moral sanction to evil, to any extent?

I vary. Depends on where I am voting in the country and whether it's a General Election or a European election. We had local elections yesterday and it took me a while to decide who I was going to vote for.

I try and vote on the person standing rather than the party.

not affiliated with one party although I do have more conservative values. I usually vote for the individual, less so the party. When I don't agree with any of them, which is more often than not, I don't vote for any of them. But I don't usually complain about them either. Though I do sometimes complain about the people who complain. :p

I've been known to split my ticket. How I vote depends on the candidate and his or her emphasis on particular issues. Although most run on their party's official platform, as individuals they don't emphasize each point equally, and may have their own pet causes. For example, I'll vote for the candidate who I believe has a better economic plan than one who is heavily focused on something like the gay marriage debate. Not that I necessarily think such issues are unimportant, but some are of a higher priority to me than others.
