1) Regular prayer is shown scientifically to actually reduce blood pressure, heart rate, stress levels, etc.

2) Water is a good first physical step. Bodybuilders typically drink a gallon a day. Since I'm about to go on another one of my health trips....I'm going to start drinking about 64 oz's a day. When I really start to add the intense weight training I may go more, especially in the hot weather since I live in the south.

3) Eating right. You can exercise all you want but if you're not eating right exercise could actually be wearing you down. Exercise is adding a certain amount of stress stimuli to your body. Your body adapts to this stimuli by becoming more adept to do what you just did and more. Thus your body becomes more and more efficient and if weight training is or in some cases even isn't involved you also become stronger. Everything good about your body gets better through exercise. Your body can't heal and make itself better without the proper building blocks, carbs, fats, and vitamins to do it with. Stay away as much as possible from animal fats and eat as lean a meat as you can. Drain your hamburger meat, cut the meat from your steak, eat lots of chicken and turkey. At least take a multivitamin everyday. Get a couple of servings of vegetables a day. I drink 8 oz. of V8 juice a day to get one of those servings.

4) Exercise. I've already explained this. It can't be substituted. Your body was made for work. If you don't use it you will eventually loose it, prematurely. :)

It is impossible to eat just today's processed food (even "fresh" vegetables from the grocery store) and get what you need. We are not living in the natural world that God created anymore.....that was gone long ago. Take yourself a multivitamin. I avoid the ones with ginsing or other herbs, though....I get tension headaches, etc....because of my anxiety.

I voted other, because right now I don't eat right, I don't eat enough, I don't do much exercise, and I don't eat vitamins - however I do pray regularly... But from next week I'm gonna do something about it, I've joined a fitness club, so I hope that will work some magic! And also I want to start eating right again - My boyfriend's encouraged me to do so...
My mum's forbidden me to lose more weight, any ideas how I can exercise and not lose weight?

well they do say your body is a temple... maybe prayer is the way forward? :) failing that do what I do: eat what you want but do vast amounts of exercise!

In answer to Miau, proper exercise won't make you lose weight if you're already fairly slim, it'll tone up your muscles instead & give you lots of endorphins which are really good! So do 30mins aerobic as a warmup (don't forget to stretch off, won't be held responsible for injury!) at your fitness club (bike, rowing machine or something) and then do some light weights, just handheld ones. Should make you fitter & not much thinner :) plus the endorphins will make you feel happy!

why does she have to do light weights  ? that is ridiculous women can use heavier weights.....not like were gonna get bulky..unless she has some hormone imbalance that causes her to produce more testosterone than the rest of us.
I would say eat enough food..remember that when u start exercising you are putting out more calories, so adjust accordingly. For weight training get started with lighter ones and machines until you are accustomed to proper form, then move on to some actual challenging ones (maybe this is what you meant thomas......). and dont worry about getting massive muscles, women just dont have the biological makeup. unless your on anabolics........
this is just from personal experience...im in no way an authority.....
most importantly ask a trainer at your new club. most times they offer a free training session to get you started. its at that time you should ask a million questions cuz it'll all be free to you ;) , hehehe.

Ananar23 - I have had so many trainers tell me that women won't bulk up from using weights (mostly men). But I'll tell you, I'm not sure if its my petite frame or what but I definately bulk up! I hate it! My shoulders get wide and my quads get bulky. I do very light weights, like 5 lb ones, and do high reps so its sort of like cardio. Pilates gives me good resistance training as well.

I eat mostly organic lean protien, veggies, fruits, whole grains, and monounsaturated fats. I try to get a little bit of all of the above at each meal. I take fish oil pills and a multivitamin and I work out four-five times a week.

Hey LN I hear ya...i am 5"3 and my shoulders and quads and biceps get on the borderline bulky side. i weigh 140 lbs and my clothing size is not in the double digits, so i have some muscle on me. people actually call me little, hahahaha...if only they knew my weight!! its just the kind of frame i have....genetics and such. i realize that each case is different, but if this girl is naturally small framed and and ectomorph, as her picture suggests (notice her narrow shoulders)...she isnt gonna bulk up..i will put lunch on it. when i say "bulk up" i mean huge muscles as well. i realize that some muscle is going to be built, but not even i at 140 lbs can be considered "bulky". most guys work hard to achieve that bulky look...im not too concerned about a woman obtaining it from the simple weight training. but as i mentioned, each body is different..i was speaking from the general populas...and once again...i am just myself, not a professional so hey, dont take my word for it,..
God bless!!!

  • I start the morning with a cup of hot water and lemon juice.
  • I have a healthy shake for breakfast. Made with Whey protein, berries, bananas, occasionally apples and cranberries and purified water for breakfast.
  • I take a lot of pharmacy grade supplements. (I have several books to tell me what I should be taking for what)It's impossible with all the chemicals and processed foods to get even half the nutrients out of food that people did 50 years ago.
  • I eat my vegetables. I don't over cook them.
  • I drink purified water.
  • I run 5 miles a day...taking Thursday's off for shopping and at least one day of the weekends off for family.
  • I try to not eat a whole lot of processed or prepackaged foods. (which is hard because I don't get joy out of cooking) Chemicals, even in healthy fare can block the lymph system keeping toxins in the body instead of filtering them through the liver. What does this mean? Very simply, fat retention.
  • I take a daily fiber supplement.
  • I avoid stress and I resolve issues right away. (Not releasing unhealthy negativity makes me physically ill.
  • I pray outloud.
  • I don't let people dump their negativity on me.
  • I laugh as much as I can. Which admittedly is something that I have to consciously remember to do. I'm rather stoic in nature.
  • I hug and tell my kids that I love them.
  • I try to remember to breath deeply.

I have had Lupus Disease since I was 17. I have a lot of problems with my immune system , Liver, Lymph system and my kidneys because of it. Which basically means that even though I take reasonably good care of myself , I still am in some pain. Exercise is a great pain and stress reliever.

I have done most of what you have all suggested. As you get older things get different. Like you don't have as many digestive enzymes which are very important to absorb the nutrients in any foods or in any vitamins you take. If you don't have those nothing will help. They steadily decline as you age and are just about kaput by age 60. So I use those and instead of vitamins I use functional foods daily and protein powder and wow does that ever work especially for people who are poor protein absorbers as myself. I didn't use any dairy for about 15 years but have found goat milk and other goat products to be wonderful and very healthy addition to the diet. Otherwise I pretty much follow the general healthy life regimine. :D
